Most people do a quickie - point and shoot photo of a food item. Try to get a good angle, layout and background to make your photo interesting and attractive.

An example of a layout of cutlery in an upscale restaurant in Sentosa using two photos, is shown.

Canon R5,TV, 32mm, 1/50 sec, f/4.0, ISO 400. I used single point focus.

Focus was on the middle of the metallic spoon. “Inverted V” of the table top directs the viewer's eye upwards to the glass of water and another set in the un-cropped photo.

Cutlery layout is important as a tidy and good layout of the cutlery and napkins give a good impression to the diner and enhance the joy of eating (if you know what I mean), as compared to fork, spoons and chopsticks displayed in various angles for diners at dinner.

Quality of cutlery is not important to most families, but a good set of fork and spoon enhances the dining experience (if you know what I mean)!

In this case, I got a better angle of the pretty terrace houses when I took the shots from inside the car. 

I used AV. Canon R5, 50mm, 1/1000 sec, f/4.5, ISO 100. Hot glaring 12.15pm sunlight. I used Lightroom and Photoshop to remove the glare.

17 Jun 2024: I drove past many times, the Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home in Silat Road, opened in April 2017.

The terrace houses look pretty and clean, nested amongst the high rises and the NNI and SGH buildings in Singapore General Hospital. This hot afternoon day around 12.15pm, I managed to shoot a a better photo from inside the car.

I used shutter priority (TV) as I had no time to change settings. Aperture priority can also be used. The manual mode will need more time to adjust. Hence, it is best to use the TV Mode.

A dredger (Vox Maxima) hit a stationary bunker vessel (Marine Honour) at Pasir Panjang Terminal on 15 Jun  2024, causing oil to leak into the sea. Palawan beach is not affected by black oil contaminating the shoreline with foul oil smell, but many customers cancel their F & B reservations at Palawan Beach. Swimming was banned. Oil slicks removed and put into the white trash bags (see images below).  Tanjong Beach was severely affected. Siloso beach was affected.

Frangipani rust is a fungus that causes brown spots
and brown discoloration of petals & leaves

Canon R5, 105mm, 1/250 sec, f/8, ISO 100.
Bright sunshine 4.50pm. Capella Singapore. Frangipani tree in bloom.
I was on the 2^nd floor of Reception, nearly on eye level with the frangipani flowers to get a better view. Most flowers are on top half of this tree adjacent to the building where Reception is located.

Soil well nourished and watered - produced blossoming white frangipanis. But frangipani rust has spores that is spread by air and water.

I noted "pustules" or small globular spots on the stalk of the flowers (photoshopped away) and brown spots on leaves (photoshopped away). These are Frangipani Rust moulds. I photoshopped away a big brown petal but left the brownish tips of the petals as seen in the image.

I was on the buggy when Shah, the driver pointed out to me the peahen coming for peanuts when the weather is not hot. He was moving and I took 6 shots with my camera on AV Mode. Only the first shot was sharp. I should have set my camera on TV mode.

Canon R5, AV, 24mm, 1/40 sec, f/11, ISO 100. Photo was taken while the buggy was moving. Only the first shot out of 6 is sharp! No time to use TV Mode.

SINGAPORE - 16 JUN 2024: At 5.30pm when it is not hot, this free-roaming peahen will bring her two chicks to the hotel to eat her favourite peanuts, offered by the staff.

I was on a buggy to Palawan Beach when the driver told me there was a hungry peahen with two chicks looking for her favourite peanuts. I managed to capture one good photo out of six. Peahens are free-roaming in Sentosa and they have to walk around to look for some food for themselves and their chicks. Some are culled as guests (Singaporeans mainly) are "afraid" of wildlife even in this golden age of the internet!

My family checked in today, a bright sunshine afternoon.

I write to thank Lyn at the reception for being kind enough to offer me the Staff Lift to go down from the tea floor to the reception as Capella Singapore does not have a lift for guests.

I also thank the others at the reception for being attentive and especially to Shah for his excellent buggy services and for showing me the peahen with two chicks coming to Capella at 5.30pm for "peanuts".

I managed to capture one good shot of the peahen out of six as the buggy was moving and I did not set my camera to shutter priority. This photo is for Shah, with my best wishes for his future career.
