TRAVELS STORY BY DR SING. Video. A healthy noni tree.

Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow)10 May 2023. 

A healthy noni tree is grown on the public  plot of land behind a Lentor Estate house, Singapore.  The tree bears numerous noni fruits as it is well cared for by the residents. A video using my iPhone 11 is shown after this image.

The noni tree is healthy because the residents ensure it has proper nutrition, sunlight, water and its leaves are free from pests and fungus. For viewers, we must take good care of our health in order to stay healthy and free of diseases.

Handheld. 84-year-old man with trembling hands. One image only.When viewed at 100%, the image is not sharp. Could it be due to hand tremors?

Handheld. Focus on “Hotel 81” to get overall image sharpness. Best of 4 shots. View at 100%, “Hotel 81” is sharp.

CONCLUSION:
The 84-year-old man saw me checking my Canon camera images and joined me at the table to have desserts in this popular Chinatown stall. He had a Leica in the 1960s and has experience in photography.

The comparison is not fair as the 84-year-old man has trembling hands which will adversely affect image quality, just like breezes in photographing flowers. The Galaxy S27 has excellent lens and could probably have had produced a sharp image as Canon R5.

"Taking photographs take your mind off the worries and stresses of daily living," he told me. I could not agree with him more as I am also a senior citizen. Photography promotes mental wellness in any person. In addition, there is some physical activity which circulates the blood and exercises the muscles to prevent sarcopenia.

One of the most striking effects of age is the involuntary loss of muscle mass, strength, and function, termed sarcopenia. Muscle mass decreases approximately 3–8% per decade after the age of 30 and this rate of decline is even higher after the age of 60.

In 2021, women live 5 years longer than me.  Life expectancy at birth in Singapore in 2021 was 81.1 year

 for men and 85.9 years for women. 

 Professor Philip Choo, a geriatric doctor by training said:

"A simple way of life, with lots of daily activities, healthy diet with mainly plant-based protein, and absence of excessive stress and smoking are important factors to a longer healthy life."

4787. VET CASE STUDY. Everted cheek pouch in a hamster. Emergency Sunday operation.

VET CASE STUDY.  Eversion of cheek pouch. Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow).

I told the young couple that Dr Daniel was overseas in Thailand and therefore unavailable to accept their hamster who had a complete eversion of the right cheek pouch. The wife said: "Its difficult to find a hamster vet. Some vet clinics do not do hamster surgeries."
 

"2 days ago, his cheek pouch had disappeared back into the mouth, but today, it is not possibel for him to do it. It's very large!" the wife said. "My hamster is unable to eat and drink."

It was a Sunday. Since this was an emergency, I went to the clinic to remove the cheek pouch. The hamster is able to eat and drink normally just after surgery and is OK as at 7 days post surgery. (Video 3/3).

Gardens by the Bay is home to more than 200 sculptures from around the world.  The Gardens by the Bay in Singapore unveiled Planet, a giant white sculpture by Quinn of his baby son that seems to float above the ground in 2013.

4785. Travels Singapore. A Food Court in Block 628, Ang Mo Kio Wet Market.

TRAVELS SINGAPORE - A Food Court in Block 628 Ang Mo Kio Wet Market. This video shows a typical food court in a wet market complex in the old Housing Board (HDB) Estates. Block 628 Ang Mo Kio Wet Market and Food Court are housed in one building, so that heartlanders can buy their meat and vegetables and other food products as well as have breakfast.

Newer integrated hubs like the new Punggol One and Fernvale Community Club building has the Hawker Centre only. The wet market is not part of the hub. In such cases, the heartlanders have to go elsewhere or shop at supermarkets. Most young people shop at supermarkets as the cheaper wet markets can be "smelly" and has wet flooring and no air conditioning.

1483. A visit to the wet market - 628 AMK Market

Today, Friday, Jun 28, 2013, I visited 628 AMK Market, a wet market that has more vacant stalls than some 5 years ago.

At least 4 fish stalls were not open. "What happened? No business?" I asked the lady fish-monger of 10 years at stall 01-177. She said: "Some operators have retired, some open later."
However, a lady customer in her late 40s said: "One stall had not opened in the past 2 months!"
"You are a good mother," I said. "Instead of going to air-conditioned supermarkets to buy fish, you buy from the wet market where the fish is more fresh."
"I have NS boys to feed," she referred to her sons in NS (National Service). "In any case, I don't know how to buy fish at the supermarket."
