4199. Smoker for roasting ducks in Australia

It's a smoker similar to a bbq. You can smoke things like beef, fish, ham etc . It is connected to a LPG cylinder.  I use hickory or apple wood chips for smoking.  There are Mesquite and pecan wood chips too, each had a different flavor on the food. Some people use pellets instead of wood chips.  The effect is the same. The smoker can grill the food as well as add a layer of smoked flavor to it.  I was making Cantonese roast duck but I wanted some smoke flavor on it. I did a cold smoke before I put into the oven to roast. Cold smoke meaning to have the heat in the smoker enough to burn the wood chips to create the smoker but not totally cook the duck. Then I roast it in the oven.

4198. Sales experience buying from Canon's referred retailers.

5 Aug 2022. I am David Sing Kong Yuen, 99pups@gmail.com.

On 2 Aug 2022, I bought a Canon R5 camera from Jia Wei at Best Denki Ngee Ann City which was one of THREE places with demonstration of R5 models as recommended by Canon.

The earlier shop Canon referred me to had a salesman who told me unhappily in my face that CANON had NOT given the shop a demonstration model. Therefore I would have to buy the R5 in the box after showing me the price list. He could have his bad day.

I hope CANON, being an international reputable company will not refer any prospects to this 1 of shops, as it was an unpleasant experience.

It was thus a pleasant surprise to encounter Mr Jia Wei who was patient and kind enough to explain the settings and new features of this new model.

I did not need to go to the 3rd of the 3 sites recommended as I bought the camera from him. I wish him the best of luck in his career with Canon.

I rarely write good or bad reviews of salespersons as it takes time although many do offer excellent services. But I give Jia Wei 5 stars for service in sales. He would have got 6 stars if he could elaborate in depth on videography.

ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE like Jia Wei:

If I were you, I will do better than being an excellent salesperson for Canon for the many years of employment. I will take more photos and videos to gain technical expertise so that I can share much more technical aspects of this specialty with the prospective buyer. The average amateur photographer will be impressed and have learnt new knowledge about Canon cameras from your hands-on experiences.

You are a young man, Jia Wei. Create good photos and videos while you are half my age, not only to have hands-on experience in digital imaging during your sales but for your future should you decide to change jobs.

Curate them on stock photo sites like shutterstock. Enjoy your photography profession.

I do not preach to you at my age. Just go to my stock site, www.shutterstock.com/g/toapayohvets to show you that I practise what I preach. A present of two photos, taken on 2 Aug 2022, outside the Istana, on the day I got the R5 camera for you, Jia Wei.

Good luck.

CURATING INSPIRATION IN YOUR PHOTO COLLECTIONS

Using Lightroom Collections to build thematic portfolios can help strengthen your unique POV and prompt new creativity.

1. Specific projects like editing for a new book or exhibit - use themes.

2. Developing Collections. His course of 8 weeks online - Portfolio Development. Results in improvement of student portfolios. Edit tightly, express their passion for subject matter more clearly. Collection module in LR ---> Collections and Smart Colections (ratings, keywords, chronologically by day, month or year. Before he clicks IMPORT, he adds keywords for searching later. As he edits, he rates them on both technical and aesthetics. Both keywording and rating help in future editing.

3. The Art of Curation. Currently...his new Yosemite book. Selecting the finest photo that communicate his decades-long love affair with Yosemite.  Factors such as season, scale, lighting and subject matter are considered. Images most expressive and unique will receive highest priority.

Also consider other criteria for the project e.g. quantity of photos, compostional variety (intimate landscapes v wide scenes), older work v. new photos.

He uses Lightroom Survey function to get a clearer sense of what he has in his libary for Yosemite winter photos. E.g query on too many "snow on branches"

4. Inspiration From Curation.
Developed themes give ideas for new projects or new themes. Take your passion for a place or subject and build a portfolio around that passion. To reach your next level of photography, think about what you want to say. Put it all in a portfolio to make a powerful statement beyond what a singular image can convey.

LIGHTROOM 'S COLLECTIONS AND SURVEY function help focus your curation process, allowing you to examine relationships, similarities and differences between images in a group.

4195. Photography. Peace lily flowers

The Spatheflower, Peace Lily, White Flag, White Sails (Spathiphyllum wallisii), outside the Istana, Singapore on 2 Aug 2022, 5 PM. In botany, a spadix is a type of inflorescence having small flowers borne on a fleshy stem. The spathe is a petal-like collar or modified leaf which is white in the young flower and yellow-green and then brown in the matured flower which has a dark green spadix.

[5:11 am, 05/08/2022] David Sing: Good morning with young and matured Spatheflowers from a small garden outside and to the right of the entrance to the Istana.

[5:13 am, 05/08/2022] David Sing: The young spatheflower has a white petal-like collar and its stem is beige in colour. The stem has numerous tiny flowers. The mature spatheflower has a yellowish green petal-like collar and its stem is dark green. Can you see both of them?

[5:16 am, 05/08/2022] David Sing: The leaves are large and they are used as ornamental foliage in the Istana exterior which is nearer to Plaza Singapura and is shaded by tall trees. The plant thrives in indirect sunlight and hence you don't see many in public parks and roadside gardens set up by NParks.

[5:18 am, 05/08/2022] David Sing: The large leaves look beautiful when they are well maintained. I think the Istana gardener must have "bathed" them as my close up photos show no dust or dirt from the busy traffic nearby.

[5:19 am, 05/08/2022] David Sing: This is the 2nd photo, but it has the young and mature spathe flowers next to each other. Have a good Friday.
