PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Sports Centre under construction. Use AV and tripod.

SINGAPORE - 2 JAN 2024: 3pm. Visited One Punggol Regional Library and saw a good angle to take a photo of the Punggol Regional Sports Centre, under construction. The pink Active SG banner was the focus.

This massive building will have a 5,000-seater football stadium, a swimming complex, an indoor sports hall and a team sports hall. Hence I give it 5 stars for being integrated with sports activities benefitting the people.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIP: Use tripod, AV. Canon R5, 26mm, 1/200sec, f/11,ISO 100.

Had a Hainan tour with a group of mainly Seniors in Oct 2023 for $1200 on JetStar and organised by Mr T T Wong with Nam Ho. This hotel lobby has a red Ferrari and a Baby Grand Piano and artwork - definitely not  a budget hotel.  There is the beach but no time to explore as we reached late in the evening and left early in the morning!

5632. ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. Take care of your health.

ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow), veterinarian

8 JAN 2024.

A donated piano in the public area of the Food Court of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Suddenly, a slim white-haired man sat on the stool and played for the public. There was no crowd. He played good music but my iPhone 10 could not record well. He did forget some parts at one stage and apologised.

I was visiting a 73-year-old friend who was warded and treated for gangrenous toes at this Hospital. He was thin and bald after suffering from two treatments and operations to amputate his 2 gangrenous toes. He had not been injecting insulin daily as instructed.

Here are two Seniors with sound minds and memory. No dementia. What a world of difference in their lives. I am also an elderly man at 73 years of age and am in good health so far.

The morale of my story is that one has to take care of one's health especially during one's senior years. How to do it is to research and read widely on healthcare for the Seniors. Good health monitoring starts from the young adulthood but Seniors can do much prevention of health deterioration like diabetes and hypertension with good medical advices and compliance to medication and a healthy diet.

Enjoy the piano music. Take care of your health.

5631. PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Signboard of Singapore Botanic Gardens. Clear leaves on the road

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Signboard of Singapore Botanic Gardens. Clear leaves on the road using photoshop. Best to have a clean photo for sale, without litter on the road.

12 Feb 2024.

SINGAPORE - 12 SEP 2023: 11am. Founded in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of three gardens and the only tropical garden to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I had photoshopped away the leaves on the road side to make a clean road entrance to the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Or remove the fallen leaves on the road before photography. This makes a clean photo.

 12 Feb 2024:

I visited the well maintained Singapore Botanic Gardens over the years at different times.

I notice that it has very few butterflies or dragonflies. There may be various reasons including pesticide fogging and a shortfall of flowers and plants for various species of caterpillars. There are no spreading beds of flowers as in some gardens overseas.

For these reasons, I rate it as 3 stars for wildlife photography.

If you set your smartphone to lowest resolution to save disc storage space, you will be making a mistake as the resolution is too small for larger prints or stock photos if you wish to have them later in life.

Example below is a small resolution image. It is 960 x 1280 pixels at 240.

5626. PHOTOGRAPHY TIP: iPhone 10. Mee siam in a small hawker stall.

11 Feb 2024. iPhone 10 photo taken in around Jan 2024.

A small hawker stall in Toa Payoh Lor 4, started by the mother. The son aged around 40, takes over now. "My mother asked me not to charge too high as the patrons are elderly," he said. He has increased a plate of mee siam to $3.00 recently.  The stall usually closes in the afternoon as he has had sold out.

Not a very sharp photo from iPhone 10. Reasons unknown.

5625. Bodhi trees in Bangladesh. A story told to me on 10 Feb 2024 (Chinese New Year).

Bodhi trees in Bangladesh. A story told to me on 10 Feb 2024 (Chinese New Year).

Bodhi trees are common in Bangladesh according to Wikepedia. I asked a Bangladeshi about Bodhi trees with large trunks in Bangladesh as there are not many seen by me in Singapore.

"There are many Bodhi trees in Bangladesh," he said. "In the 1990s, a hurricane devastated my school and neighbourhood. What remained was like desert in the middle East. It was very hot for students to study. So my teacher asked us to contribute money to buy a small bodhi plant. We planted it in the middle of the field."

"Why did your teacher ask for a Bodhi tree?" I asked.

"Its grows fast and its branches spread out like an umbrella providing shade," he said. "However we need to protect this plant from the goats and cows."

"Do you fence it with netting like a chicken hut?" I asked.

"No, no," he explained. "We used bamboo poles as fences. We have a lot of bamboo trees in the countryside."

"Now it is 2024," he extended his hands as if to encircle the Bodhi tree. "My two hands cannot even wrap round the tree trunk!"

I checked the Wikipedia. The Bodhi tree has a religious significance in 3 religions - Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism.

Bodhi (Ficus religiosa) is a large dry season-deciduous or semi-evergreen tree up to 30 metres (98 ft) tall and with a trunk diameter of up to 3 metres (9.8 ft). The leaves are cordate in shape with a distinctive extended drip tip; they are 10–17 centimetres (3.9–6.7 in) long and 8–12 centimetres (3.1–4.7 in) broad, with a 6–10 centimetres (2.4–3.9 in) petiole. The fruits are small figs 1–1.5 centimetres (0.39–0.59 in) in diameter, green ripening to purple.[citation needed]
