TULIPMANIA - 21 APR - 21 MAY 2023. Gardens
By The Bay showcases tulips cultivated in East Turkiye. The website
says these tulips are in “forms different from what people are used
to.” They certainly look smaller and different in shape from the
tulips in Keukenhof - the largest tulip garden in the world.

4648. Cannonball Tree in Gardens By The Bay.
Cannonball Tree
Aptly-named, the large and heavy, spherical, brown fruits of this tree certainly resemble cannonballs! When split open, its pulp exudes an unpleasant odour that appeals to pig-like mammals that help in dispersing its seeds. Its pinkish-red blooms surprisingly lack nectar but give off a sweet and strong fragrance. To attract bees, it produces two types of pollen - sterile pollen that they feed on, and fertile pollen that dusts their backs as they feed, which in turn effect cross-pollination when the bees visit other flowers.

4647. Birds - Oriental Magpie-Robin, Male, 17 Apr 2023, 18 Jul 2023, 9 Aug 2023.
PHOTO 1.
Oriental Magpie Robin
The male is easily identified by its striking contrast of black
and white feathers.
The female has black upperparts, but has a dark grey
breast.
This bird is known to sing well.
The male Oriental Magpie Robin (OMR)
has striking black and white colours including the black breast. The
female also has black upperparts, but has a dark grey breast. The OMR
is a bird native to Singapore, but I rarely see it in public gardens
and open spaces.
Suddenly perched 10 feet from me in
the hot afternoon sunlight of Gardens by the Bay on 17 Apr 2023.

2023.
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human traits,
emotions, or intentions to non-human entities. It is considered to be
an innate tendency of human psychology. This butterfly is an example
of anthropomorphism.
BEHAVING OUT OF CHARACTER, like some
people. This butterfly, in Lentor Place, in Mar 2023, perches within
6 feet of my camera for over 60 seconds to pose for photos and
videos. He appears to be praying. All butterflies do not pose so
close for people.

4643. Mother and Child sculpture by Dr Ng Eng Teng
Google Review for maintenance - One star

Apr 2023:
MAINTENANCE
OF SCULPTURES AT GARDENS BY THE BAY
I
visited Gardens by the Bay in the morning. No doubt, the plants and
flowers are very well maintained and kept free from diseases.
However, the management (if it is responsible) has not maintained the
MOTHER AND CHILD sculpture by Dr Ng Eng Teng for a very long time. It
is stained and has large patches of mould on the body. For this
instance, I have to give a one-star rating.
This
situation reminds me of The Merlion which, at one time, had rusty
stains on its mouth, but today, it is very clean and white. I hope
the authorities will look into cleaning up this statue which is seen
by overseas tourists.
I
must say, the stains add "character" to the statue for the
purpose of my photography. I had photographed the Mother and Child
sculpture at the National Gallery Singapore, but it does not look
"scary" as it is better maintained.

Saturday 8 Apr 2023
Bilingualism
helps the young bridge different languages, cultures and perspectives
as the world becomes increasingly fragmented.
The Bilingualism Carnival at the new One Punggol Integrated
Centre was popular. Three videos show some performances by students
and two videos show the new Hawker Centre.
