Keeping a hatchling red-eared slider healthy requires a proper tank, warm water, a dry basking spot, special UV and heat lights, and a protein-rich diet. [1, 2]
Tank and Water Setup
Tank size: Start with a 30 to 50-gallon tank so they have enough room to grow.
Water depth: Keep water shallow (several inches) so the tiny SLIDER can easily reach the surface and flip over.
Water temperature: Use a heater to keep water warm at 80°F to 85°F (26.6°C to 29.4°C).
Cleanliness: Use a water filter and change part of the water every week to keep it fresh.
Basking and Lighting
Basking area: Provide a dry platform above the water where the baby turtle can completely get out to dry.
Heat lamp: Keep the basking spot warm at around 90°F (32.2°C).
UV light: Provide a special bulb that gives both UVA and UVB rays for 10 to 12 hours a day to build a strong shell.
Diet and Feeding
Daily food: Feed daily with high-quality commercial pellets made for aquatic turtles, sized smaller than their head.
Proteins and greens: Add small amounts of protein treats (like bloodworms or earthworms) and introduce dark leafy greens (like collards or dandelion).
Calcium: Provide a cuttlebone in the water for extra calcium

My 3–4 month old red-eared slider has not been eating for around 3 days. It seems lethargic as it does not move around as much. I have noticed bubbles from its nose with heavier breathing at times. It does not have visible eye swelling or mucus formation.
It basks more than usual but it still goes into the water.
Metabolic bone disease (MBD) is a common disease in pet red-eared sliders. Other terms which may be used include fibrous osteodystrophy, osteomalacia, secondary nutritional hyperparathyroidism, osteoporosis, and rickets.
There is no single cause of MBD and the disease is not as simple as calcium deficiency. The primary problem is a disruption of calcium metabolism which causes a host of related problems.
MBD is almost always a result of poor husbandry but it is also generally preventable by providing a proper environment and diet specifically for your red-eared slider.
The following are important in both the prevention and treatment of metabolic bone disease:
A diet balanced in calcium and phosphorus, protein, energy and other nutrients. Buy a reputable brand with a good supply of Calcium, Phosphorus and Vit D.
Exposure to UVA/UVB invisible light rays.
Proper heat gradients - basking area heated at one end with heating lamp and UVA/UVB lights, the other end has cooler temperature.
Adequate enclosure and/or room to exercise
