5852. Papilio clytia form dissimilis

SINGAPORE - 20 APR 2026: The Common Mime butterfly (Papilio clytia form dissimilis) mimics distasteful butterfly species such as the Blue Glassy Tiger to protect itself from predators. Its wingspan is around 105mm. It belongs to the swallowtail family. Image was taken by iPhone 12 Pro.

---------------------

Once settled on a perch, Blue Glassy Tiger can be identified by the presence of the transverse bar in the forewing cell, a feature not present in the Dark Glassy Tiger.

The Glassy Blue Tiger (Ideopsis vulgaris) has a wingspan reaching 70–80 millimetres (2.8–3.1 in).[6][7] This butterfly is quite similar to the dark glassy tiger (Parantica agleoides). A transverse black bar in the forewing cell, cutting through one of the white streaks, distinguishes the blue glassy tiger from the other one.[6] As other milkweed butterfly it is mimicked by Chilasa clytia (Papilionidae).

Spotted at 6pm 20 Jun 2026. I arrived from St Giles Southkey Hotel, Johor Bahru around 1pm. Had a nap. Took Ray Ray for a walk in Countryside Park. Saw this butterfly sipping nectar from the yellow Singapore Daisy in plantar box opposite Lentor Walk Park.
