1. The son lost a 6-year-old dog to suspected poisoning. Jaundice and
died within 2 days. Blood test showed elevated liver enzymes.
"No point suspecting the neighbours unless you have evidence," the
father told me as that would bring distrust and litigation. "My German
Shepherd died similarly as he was barking a lot, but this small breed
was a noisy nuisance." He bought a replacement puppy for the depressed
adult son.
2. "I would have been dead 3 years ago if I did not
sell my company," he said he had sold to a China investor for over $80
million. "The business was very stressful." His brother wanted to
retain some shares but he was told not to "leave the tail behind" when
selling the business. "Just buy a few properties and collect rentals."
Now, his brother is very happy.
3. "If you can lift it up, you can put it down," he was saying about some projects.
4. "My wife gave me $1,000 to buy a watch," he showed me the Longines
watch which was flat, as he liked it. "I went to the watch shop. The
salesman asked me my budget and sold me the watch." That was some 40
years ago and the watch is still operational. But it costs much more for
service and repair.
5. "Do not compare your son to my son," he said. "My son has a lot of
stresses in his work as regional manager of the company heading the
office in Shanghai!" Comparison cause envy and dissatisfaction.
