4575. The 10-year-old old unspayed Shih Tzu passed dirty brown vaginal discharge.

This video shows the shih tzua 30 minutes after the operation to remove the womb. The dog had a dirty reddish brown vaginal discharge a few days ago, suggestive of open pyometra. Evidence-based medicine was practised viz: 1) X-ray showed swollen uterine bodies. 2)Blood test of increased white cell count. A few hours later, the dog, given IV drips, had recovered from anaesthesia and went home on the same day. Follow up on the next day, the dog had recovered. 

 

JAN 2015. 

She came for vaccination. I advised spay as she had false pregnancy with milk. The owner believed she had "menopause" since no bleeding was seen for the past 3 years. He did not want any spay surgery as advised by me.. 

CONCLUSION. Spayed dogs when they are younger will have prevented the stress and worries of the dog passing dirty brown vaginal discharge.
