SINGAPORE ARTS - 2013 - A rare Caucasian performance for heartlanders - Toa Payoh Market Food Centre 30 Dec 2022. Videography 9 years ago. I merged 2 videos using Adobe Premier Pro today.

In Oct 2013, I was at the Toa Payoh Market and Food Centre practising street photography. My Canon camera was for amateurs and I did not expect the video to be reasonably sharp.    I was very surprised to see a Caucasian lady performing in the heartlands, as the best place would be downtown Orchard Road if she wanted to earn more money.

She juggled the glass balls without dropping the one placed on top of her head. This was not easy. Then she did the hula hoops. The audience was a handful. Some residents walked past in front and behind her. I consider this as disrespectful.

Two boys put some money in her TIP BOX.

I did see such busking performers in Europe during my packaged tours and in downtown Orchard Road. But in Toa Payoh? This was the heartland. So this is probably the rare footage of a foreign performance at the heartlands 9 years ago in 2013. Before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

In this video, the heartlanders in general appeared to be not interested in the Arts!
