Loss of habitat by deforestation and tree and plant cutting by contractors have had decreased the monitor lizard numbers in Yio Chu Kang Crescent Forest. Some people hunt them for food in the past years. This was my first encounter with a juvenile monitor lizard after over 100 visits to this forest during my morning walks in the past 3 years.
