3298. The 11-year-old male cat pees small amounts of urine. Why?

Oct 10, 2019

"I came back from overseas 2 days ago," the owner said. "My cat who used to scratch my face now is docile and has problem passing urine!"

Physical examination showed the cat has a very large distended bladder. The cat is hypothermic with rectal temp = 37.5C. Urinary catheterisation. Unable to pass urinary catheter past 1 cm of urethra. Massaged urethral area to loosen urethral plugs. Syringe in normal saline.
After some 5 minutes, the catheter was successfully passed into the bladder. Bloody urine sucked out. pH is alkaline. Syringed in normal saline to clear bladder of the sediments. Repeat this procedure on Day 2 and 3 of in-patient treatment. Antibiotics and pain-killers.

Cat ate a bit of A/D on Day 3 of inpatient.
IV drip given for the next 3 days.
