3296. INTERN. The red-eared slider has a paralysed neck
For the past 6 months, the slider could not retract his head under his carapace as he had done for the past 5 years. This history indicated a traumatic injury to the neck. The owner said that the sibling frequently mounted him as they were housed together.
For the past 2 weeks, he had been gasping for breath. Open-mouth breathing and not eating. Prognosis is poor. Syringe feeding with Critical care and pellets 6X per day to prevent weight loss and malnutrition for many months may help him live.
