Canon R5, 24-105mm, focus at 1/3 the focal length (man, left). Use AV
Mode, F/16, ISO 400. I don’t know whether the smartphone can get
this type of image.

SMARTPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
The reading area of the brand new Punggol Regional Library, Singapore, 23 Apr 2023. This is an excellent smartphone photo taken by Poh Kuan. The seat’s back has shown a split line (gap) where the two halves were “glued”, likely due to poor workmanship and design as the Library just opened on 5 Apr 2023. The distracting lines were erased by Photoshop. It would be a better image if the 5 seats were positioned “symmetrical” in taking the photo.

Spadix: This is also a modified spike with a fleshy axis. It contains numerous sessile flowers arranged acropetally. The spadix is enclosed by leaf-like large, bright, colourful and curved bracts known as a “spathe”. Female flowers are present at the base, male and sterile flowers are present at the top
A spadix is a spike borne on a fleshy stem. The subtending leaf-like bract is called a spathe.
The spadix and spathe are a main focus of Anthurium breeders, who develop cultivars in bright colors and unique shapes. Anthurium scherzerianum and A. andraeanum, two of the most common taxa in cultivation, are the only species that grow bright red spathes. They have also been bred to produce spathes in many other colors and patterns. Anthurium plants are poisonous due to calcium oxalate crystals. The sap is irritating to the skin and eyes.
Anthurium plant greets visitors to Terminal 4, Changi Airport in Mar 2023. Some spathes appear to be infested with fungal spots and have had lost their pink colours. It is a daily battle to maintain the health of plants and ourselves too.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Use a tripod and AV Mode.

The White Anthurium (Anthurium andraeanum) has white spadix (fleshy spike with flowers) and spathe (leaf-like bract). The Anthurium is a purifying plant as its leaves suck up ammonia, formaldehyde, toluene and xylene from the environment.

Tulipmania floral exhibit at Gardens by the Bay. I find it difficult to take excellent photos with my Canon R5 camera, 24-105 mm lens. I tried taking photos with AV Mode, F/22, ISO 100-200 today although there was no breezes swaying the flowers inside the Flower Dome. But the people at moving.
Photos turned out as to be not sharp.
I asked Mr Francis Lee for some tips and he was kind to do so.
1. Lens hood should be used to prevent light distraction as I had a lens hood but never used it.
2. To get sharp photos, focus at 1/3 of the distance of the image or use 1/3 distance from the bottom of the LED screen. Use AV Mode and try 3 shots at F/5.6, F/11 and F/16. Choose the one that will give me sharp photos. F/5.6 will give poor depth of field, so it may not be appropriate if I want all parts to be sharp
3. AV Mode is good as Manual Mode gets affected by fast changes of light. Today is a cloudy day and the sunlight came and went fast.
4. He explained that the quality of our lens do not produce sharp images at F/22 which I used today to get overall sharpness. Better to try F/11 or F/16. Take 3 types of settings e.g. F/8, F/11 and F/16.

Wed. I tried TV Mode, 1/1000 sec at ISO Auto. Not great photos. In conclusion, better to use AV Mode, F/11 and ISO 100-400 when there is bright light.

28 Apr 2023: This sighting of a butterfly at the Potong Pasir Connector path beside the Kallang River near the Central Expressway is rare in public parks and gardens for various reasons. One will be the regular anti-dengue fever pesticide fogging poisoning the leaves so that butterfly larvae and caterpillar cannot survive after eating such poisoned leaves.
The authorities will not know what to do to increase the butterfly population e.g. in Gardens by the Bay, you will hardly see more than 5 butterflies during any visit. Hard to believe, but true. Same for the Forecourt Garden of the Esplanade.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh lunch, Jewel Changi Airport, 24 Apr 2023. Two
elderly patrons had deboned pig trotters, peanuts, kway chap, pig
intestines, yu char kway, bak kut and tea for lunch while I had bak
kut, yu char kway and mui choy! They offerred to share their dishes!
