4105. Singapore eagle sighting in Lentor Plain house

PHOTOGRAPHY TIP - PUT CAMERA ON THE CAR ROOF TOP

Sat 5 Mar 2022. 9AM. I went to my car parked outside the house gate. I prepared to drive away. Suddenly an eagle perched on the roof of opposite 3-storey house over 400 m away, for a minute or two. An unobstructed view in bright sunshine - a photographer's ideal scene.

I quickly took my camera out of the car. I placed my camera on the roof of my car to stabilise and focus on the eagle's ear using the 18 - 200mm lens, "P" Mode. After two minutes, the eagle flew towards the tall tree just opposite the front of our house, hidden in the leaves.

I got sharp images as I was able to place the camera on the roof of my car. If I hand-held the camera, I would get blurry shots. This eagle is a rare sighting in Lentor Estate and sharp images of flying eagles are rarer if I use hand-held the camera (Canon EOS 90D).

4104. A hamster's left ear tumour doubled in size in 23 days

Thursday, 3 MAR 2022, DAY 1: Today, the young couple brought the 1.5-year-old male dwarf hamster in for consultation. "Now the whole ear must be amputated," I advised. "Very itchy and ulcerated. Very swollen," I said. "It is likely a malignant ear tumour as it grows so large in 23 days." "It is best not to operate on a swollen inflamed bleeding ear tumour till 3 days later", I explained that the hamster is in poor bodily condition, having lost weight to 50 g now and the ear tumour was badly infected. The base of the ear was swollen - possibly an abscess is forming." SURGERY scheduled on Day 4, provided the hamster is active, eating well and has put on 5 g bodyweight. Otherwise, it may die under anaesthesia as it is weak and sickly now.
