3364. Tongue ulceration of red-eared slider. Chinese New Year Feb 16, 2018 10.30 am

Feb 16, 2018

This 25-year-old red-eared slider had no appetite for some weeks before the owner consulted me for "vomiting blood" on Dec 26, 2018 (Day 1). Tongue bleeding due to ulcers seen.

Weight was 1.85 on Day 1. Today (Day 21) it is 1.8kg. Syringe fed 100 pellets per day.
Today, I came in to feed her.

-------------------------------------------------------

Still not eating pellets despite healed tongue. Continue syringe feeding 100 pellets per day divided into 3 feedings

--------------------------------------

Day 22
Gained 100 g after feeding 150 pellets yesterday morning (Chinese New Year)
Hard palate shows yellow plaque (healing ulcers)
Still not eating pellets by herself

-----------------------------------------
Feb 19, 2018   6 pm. Goes home. Needs syringe feeding 150 pellets/day in 3 X. She gains 100 g bodyweight nowadays, if fed 150 pellets by syringe per day. Today back to 1.85 kg as during admission on Jan 26, 2018 (25 days ago) but with no bleeding mouth and ulcerations. There is a yellow plaque of scar on the hard palate as seen in the picture of Day 22.

No more free roaming in the whole apartment.

3361. A 5-month-old lionhead lop rabbit dislocates both hips

Chinese New Year's Eve   Feb 15, 2018

Referral by pet shop Agnes
The rabbit has right hind limb stretched 90 degrees to body. Right fore limb also stretched out.
Palpation. Very painful R hip. No pain in R shoulder.
X-rays show both hips are dislocated. What to do?

Ehmer sling generally ineffective for RH hip dislocation as the dislocation is too long
Femoral head osteotomy may be possible but the right shoulder sprain is present and may be dislocated after surgery of the RH hip.  Owner to wait 2 weeks. Confined. No slippery floor.

The rabbit was lame on right hind limb for a month."A very gentle rabbit," the lady owner told me as she had 5 other rabbits with not no gentle dispositions. "Is he the only one permitted to jump down from the bed?" I asked. "Yes, he does jump down occasionally."

"One mis-step will cause hip dislocation," I said. The owner agreed
