4956. 75-300 mm lens. Eurasian Tree Sparrow in Lentor Modern mall area

Good afternoon. Took a photo of this Eurasian Tree Sparrow at eye level in Lentor Modern mall area this morning 20 Feb 2026. It looks serious as it has a black goatee!

The black spots on its white cheeks intimidate predators as they look like gigantic eyes!

The Rose Myrtle (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa) is a pink flower with multiple yellow stamens in the centre. Its pink colour fades to white. It resembles the cherry blossom.

google review

18 Feb 2026: The public gardens of the new Lentor Modern shopping centre has a diverse variety of new fresh flowers and plants to beautify the environment.

It is a good time to take photos of the flora as the crop is newly planted and diverse.

Today is the 2nd day of Chinese New Year. Most shops are closed and the road outside is less busy with illegally parked cars!

5-stars to the management who planted so many ornamental flowers and green shrubs.

I share one photo of the Rose Myrtle is attached. It is pink with multiple yellow stamens in the centre and resembles the cherry blossom. A honey bee is pollinating this flower.

male Asian Koel

The male Asian Koel is known for its loud, repetitive, and ascending "koo-OEL" or "uwu-uwu" call, often heard during early morning and throughout the day. These glossy black, red-eyed birds are commonly heard in suburban areas. The call serves as a territorial or breeding signal.

All-black plumage, red eyes in a male Asian Koel, unlike the patterned plumage in the female.

The cashier wears her hair in a tight bun.

Girrrrrlll if you are putting that hair in a tight bun without properly oiling and a treatment, you are damaging that hair! Always, and I mean always, oil and use a moisturizing mask or leave in conditioner to create that tackiness that a slick back bun needs to stay in place. No gels, no mousses, just TLC. You are very welcome

Steps to Create a Tight Bun:
  • Preparation: Part hair down the middle or brush all back, applying serum or gel to tame flyaways.
  • Secure Ponytail: Use a brush to pull hair into a firm ponytail at the desired height (nape of neck for a low bun, crown for a high bun).
  • Create the Bun: Twist the ponytail tightly and wrap it clockwise or counterclockwise around the base.
  • Secure: Use hairpins or a sturdy hair tie to hold the bun in place.
  • Finish: Apply more hairspray to lock everything in place.

In everyday culture

The position of a hair bun on the head can convey cues about the person's style, colored by social expectations. From the perspective of the United States, Hannah Goldfield wrote for The New York Times that a high bun "conveys a certain uncouth youthfulness, a sense of unseriousness, a need to provoke" and the low bun is its opposite. Perceptions have changed with time, however.[19]

Similarly, a messier bun, wherein hair is not pulled back tightly, can convey a carefree and casual persona or mood.[20]

[06:31, 17/02/2026] Dr David Sing: Good morning. Happy New Year. I listened to many Elderly Stories nowadays. Sometimes there will be a daughter-in-law "who wears her hair in a tight bun." What is a tight bun? This cashier probably is a good example.
