TRAVELS MYANMAR. The Kan Taw Mingalar Pagoda, Thegon township, Bago regi...

4166. TRAVELS MYANMAR- A pagoda in Bago region

A pagoda is a tiered tower with multiple, upward-curving eaves, commonly found in East and Southeast Asia, often associated with temples or monasteries. They are typically religious structures, most often Buddhist, but can also be associated with Taoist or Hindu beliefs. Pagodas evolved from the Indian stupa, a monument used to house Buddhist relics.

 Structure:

  • Pagodas are characterized by their multi-storied structure with roofs that curve upwards at each level.
  • Religious Significance:
They are primarily used for religious purposes, particularly within Buddhism. They often house relics, scriptures, or serve as a place of worship.
  • Origin:
Pagodas trace their roots back to the Indian stupa, which was a dome-shaped monument.
  • Cultural Importance:
Beyond their religious function, pagodas are important cultural symbols and testaments to craftsmanship and artistic sensibilities in various Asian cultures.
  • Variations:
While the general form is consistent, different regions and cultures have incorporated their own unique architectural styles and details into pagoda design.
  •
    Other Uses:
While primarily religious, pagodas have also been adapted in some cases for secular purposes, such as in gardens or as decorative structures

Adult male Sumatran orangutan (R) in Singapore Zoo

Hello, I'm Balta!

I'm a Spanish travel blogger who has been on the move since October 2017. It was back then when I decided to quit my IT job, leave my life in Barcelona and head to Australia with a one way ticket and with the Working Holiday Visa in my passport.

Ever since I left Spain, I've been living abroad in Australia and Japan and travelling through Oceania and Asia. I've been diving in the Great Barrier Reef, in Komodo National Park and in Sipadan. I've climbed Mount Fuji, Mount Kinabalu and Everest Base Camp. I've been to the jungle of Sumatra, to the one of Borneo and to the one of Nepal to see orangutans, proboscis monkeys, rhinos, crocodiles and kingfishers. I've done a 200-hour Kundalini yoga course in Rishikesh and... I even found some time to write a novel summarizing what I've learned in the last 6 years 😉

Originally, I decided to create this blog to document my experience with the Working Holiday Visa in Australia and share some tips about it. Today, after more than 4 years living between Australia and Japan and after having visited 43 countries, the goal of the blog is to help those who venture to travel this beautiful planet with travel guides, tips and anecdotes as well as with some interesting and worthwhile life experiences.

Are you ready?

WILDLIFE SINGAPORE.
Educational Video sponsored by
Toa Payoh Vets.

1 JULY 2025.
Singapore Zoo at around 10.30am
Gibbons in the Singapore Zoo.

This video shows 2 species of gibbons.
The female buff-cheeked gibbon and the
white_handed gibbon (Lar Gibbon). The
former has a beige body while the latter is black.

The buff-cheeked gibbon is a species of
gibbon native to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia

The Lar gibbon, also known as the white-handed gibbon
is an endangered primate in the gibbon family.

It inhabits the tropical rainforests of China, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia

Gibbons are arboreal. They rarely move

around the ground. They can swing at

35 miles per hour for up to 50 feet

in between swings.

The gibbon creates synchronized songs

or duets in the mornings. Listen to their

voices in this video.
They are thought to be communications,

for marking territories and resources

or between potential mates. The duets

comprise species-specific characteristics

which are inherited, not learned.
