 9 Jun 2024. The Supertree at Gardens by the Bay is a vertical garden and a popular tourist attraction.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS:

I share some tips for viewers.

To take a good photo, use a tripod, manual mode and bright sunshine e.g. at 6 pm on 9 Jun 2024. Include some people in to show size and height of the tree.

It will be very difficult to get a sharp image without a tripod.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: The National Mosque of Malaysia

 

5 Jun 2024.

The National Mosque of Malaysia (Malay: Masjid Negara Malaysia), built in 1965, accommodates up to 15,000 worshippers. It has a 73-meter-high minaret and a 16-pointed star dome representing 5 pillars of Islam and the 11 states of then Malaya.

ITS UNIQUE DESIGN:
It is beautifully designed - in particular, the "semi-folded" umbrella roof structure and "folded umbrella" of the minaret.

I did not have time to visit this mosque. I attach a photo for viewer's appreciation. This photo was taken from the 15th floor of The Majestic Hotel.

5 Jun 2024: I requested change from 5th floor to 15th floor the next day. The Hotel Majestic staff was kind enough to permit me to change the next day, as it was fully booked on 4 Jun 2024. 

Photo was taken from #15-20 room at 4.21pm, on 5 Jun 2024, using Canon R5.

GOOGLE REVIEW. 5 STARS. 

On Jun 4, 2024, I was given a 5th floor room which faced a building. I requested for a change of room to the 15th floor as I wanted to take photos of the Merdeka 118 Tower or city views.

The male receptionist told me that the hotel was full, but he would write a note to let his colleagues reserve a 14th floor room on Jun 5.

I went to the reception on Jun 5 at around 4pm. I was given Room 15-20 which showed an excellent view of the Merdeka 118 Tower and the Railway Station.

On Jun 4, 2024, I had a late dinner at the Colonial Cafe. There was a singer and pianist. The Hainan Lamb Shrank was very tasty. The services were impeccable. Thank you to the staff.  Keep up the good services.

 PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Merdeka 118. A friend used his iPhone on 25 Feb 2024.

Hundreds of photos of Merdeka 118 in the internet sites, but most are average.

I share somebody's interesting photo of Merdeka 118 building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, taken from another hotel at around 8am. The photo from iPhone 15 Max is interesting as it has clouds and golden streak in the sky directing the viewer towards the 118-storey skyscraper. I rate his photo as 5-stars.

Capturing such a photo depends on luck and your initiative as timing is very important. If you wait till you have breakfast, you will miss the opportunity to create this beautiful visual with your smartphone.

In photography, as in real life, the window of opportunity will open briefly and it is up to you to be aware of the moment which may never repeat itself.

On 5 - 6 June 2024, I attended the Xpert Symposium for 400 vets at Hotel Majestic, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The organiser from Rhone Ma and sponsor Boehringer Ingelheim were very efficient and helpful.

I found the hotel's ballroom which can accommodate 1000 people was comfortable for 400 vets to continue professional education, network and make friends.

5900. Reunion lunch at Sheraton Towers on 3 Jun 2024:

 On 3 Jun 2024, the Vietnam tour group had a reunion with Frances who is a permanent resident of New Zealand. She opted to stay and work there as her two sons are citizens there. 

As an administration manager in a hospital, she is in charge of 7 referred diabetic patients whom the Specialist would entertain each workday morning day at the Hospital. The Specialist would be in private practice after that. "No show" would be her Key Performance Indicators, meaning that the number of patients coming for treatment.

Seven patients would be by appointment for the day. Only urgent cases would be attended to while other might have to wait months. Some die before their appointment. Patients were mainly islanders - Maoris, Samoans and others who have chronic diseases like diabetes. She would have to phone a taxi and make arrangements for the patient to be picked up and sent to the public hospital where she worked. Many times, the patient did not turn up despite the free taxi services! 

To resolve the no shows, the hospital engaged a Maori to do house visits to check and educate the prospective patients so that they would accept the free taxi services and go for their appointments. 

Her previous job in Singapore was as a patient assistant to the doctors at a public hospital in the suburb. The specialist would have an entourage of intern doctors, nurses and she would take notes of patient conditions. Here in New Zealand, the specialist treats 7 patients only. He does not have an entourage. Hence her workload is much less stressful. She said she earned more than in Singapore. As she can speak Mandarin and other dialects, she is called to phone the prospective Chinese nationals to come for appointment as her colleagues cannot communicate with them.  

"You can earn $50 per hour as an interpreter," he boss told her. "But you have to study for one year at get your certification." At her age, with two grown up adult sons, she did not look forward to more examinations.

She had passed the phlebotomist test in Singapore and has the certificate to practise as a phlebomtomist in Singapore. But she was not keen on this work in New Zealand.

5898. VET CASE STUDY: Cat bitten by a dog. RAVS Myanmar case.

The cat was bitten by a dog on 7-5-2024 night. She came to RAVS the next morning by complaint of increased respiratory efforts and lethargy. Treatment was given. Medication and wound closure by the RAVS vet.

TIPS:
It is important 

to X-ray the chest in such cases. Right 10th and 11th rib fracture and subcutaneous emphysemas.

do a blood test which showed anaemia but no blood borne infection. Cat was treated at RAVS, Myanmar and so far, there is no complaint.

16 May 2013. I used P Mode at this time as recommended by a friend when I told him I could not know how to use settings of my Canon 70D and took this photo.

Now in 2024, I use AV Mode, TP Mode and Manual Mode using Canon R5. Practise with lower end camera first as it is much more affordable.
