PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Use of zoom lens 18-300mm. Canon EOS 70D. In bright 3pm sunshine, the image looks sharp.  Zoom lens do produce good photos sometimes.

Try NOT to take photos with vehicles blocking the entrance to the Archway.

Arch on 24 Dec 2017 Orchard Road. Canon 70D. 18-300mm lens. 37mm, 1/200sec, f/8, ISO 100i.
The white cones represent christmas trees covered by snow. The design is simple but attractive, in my opinion.

5839. Vet Case Study: A Silkie Terrier keeps licking her right foot. A lick granuloma forms. What to do?

Vet Case Study:  2018. LICK GRANULOMA.
Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow). 10 Jan 2018.

A “Be Kind To Pets” Veterinary Educational Video is created for owners in 25 Apr 2024.

This 2018 case study shows a surgical removal of a lick granuloma in a 4-year-old female Silkie Terrier. The dog kept licking the skin on one area of the lower part of the limbs and feet. In this 2018 vet case study, the Silkie Terrier licked the "wrist" area of her right fore limb daily and more than one time per day.

The owner was very worried that the inflamed and wet skin lesion which would get infected or ulcerated exposing the muscles and bones over time.

This case was treated by surgery. Electro-excision of the lesion resolved the incessant licking problem. The owner is happy with the outcome.

The 4-year-old Silkie Terrier is nervous when she visited the vet, developing hyperthermia - anaesthetic risk. Be careful especially in .

Sedation was at 50% of dosage IV. Isoflurane gas anaesthesia. Electro-excision of lesion.

No more obsessive licking of the “wrist”. The owner was happy with the outcome.

DR SING'S COMMENTS: Some vets prefer the medical treatment using washes and medication or removing the allergies, stresses or boredom in the dog. Surgical treatment is one approach in the treatment of lick granulomas in the dog.

The Myanmar Water Festival, locally known as Thingyan, is one of the most significant and widely celebrated events in Myanmar. The following are some significant realities about the festival;

Cultural Significance: Thingyan marks the traditional Myanmar New Year and is celebrated with great willingness and enthusiasm across the country. It usually falls in mid-April, and the 17th of April is the first day of the Myanmar New Year.
Water Symbolism: Water is the central theme of the festival, symbolizing the washing away of the previous year’s misfortunes and sins and welcoming the new year with a fresh start. People engage in water fights, wetting each other with water from buckets, pipes, and water guns.
Religious Observances: The festival also has religious significance, with Buddhists visiting pagodas and monasteries to make offerings, listen to sermons, and perform merit-making activities. It’s a time for spiritual reflection and renewal.
Street Celebrations: Streets across Myanmar transform into lively water-splashing zones during Thingyan. People of all ages participate in the events, dancing to music blaring from speakers, enjoying street food, and engaging in friendly water battles.
Community Unity: Thingyan brings communities together, fostering a sense of unity and friendship as people join hands to celebrate the new year. It’s a time when social barriers are relaxed, and people from all walks of life come together to enjoy the celebrations.
Traditional Customs: Traditional customs and ceremonies are observed during Thingyan, including the pouring of scented water over Buddha images, symbolic cleansing of homes and possessions, and the offering of food to monks and elders.
Pandal Decorations: Attractively decorated pandals or stages are set up in towns and cities, featuring colourful displays, performances, and cultural shows. These pandals serve as focal points for community gatherings and entertainment.
Modern Adaptations: While Thingyan has deep traditional roots, it has also evolved with modern influences. In urban areas, there are concerts, dance parties, and other modern forms of entertainment alongside traditional celebrations.
Tourist Attraction: Thingyan attracts both domestic and international tourists, drawn by the vibrancy and exuberance of the festivities. It’s a unique cultural experience that offers visitors a glimpse into Myanmar’s rich heritage and traditions.
Generally, Thingyan is a joyous celebration that expands the spirit of renewal, unity, and prosperous community in Myanmar.

5837. PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Oriental Garden Lizard on tree trunk Use TV Mode. Catchlights. Focus on eye of lizard.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Oriental Garden Lizard on tree trunk Use TV Mode. Catchlights. Focus on eye of lizard.

If you can get the catchlight in the lizard's eye, you will have an attractive image.

Catchlights in photography are the bright, specular highlights found in a subject's eyes that are reflections of the light source(s) used to create the portrait or other lighting.

Oriental Garden Lizard on a Happiness Tree, Singapore, 23 Apr 2024, 9am. A rare sighting in 2023 and 2024 owing to habitat loss, regular insecticide spraying, tree trimming and climate change.

Canon R5, TV, 85mm, 1/1000sec, f/4.0, ISO 640. ISO is set to AUTO – ISO 640 is due to the darker lighting amongst the leaves.

Canon R5, tripod, Manual, 1/500sec, f/4.0, ISO 200

I went to a vacant piece of grassland near Teachers' Estate and condo construction site near to midnight. The half moon was very bright but there were some clouds.

MANUAL MODE is the best for moon photography, but a tripod is needed.

5831. PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Ambulances on the road.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Ambulances on the road.
Sometimes you need to be prepared and take a shot of the ambulance from the car window.

In Singapore, the SCDF (Singapore Civil Defence Force) has 92 ambulances. There is an ageing population which increases the demand.

1. Ambulances cannot leave hospitals until after the patients they had conveyed have been triaged by hospital staff and the handover is completed. Patients on ambulance trolleys inside the ED. (Emergency Department).

2. Do not dial 995, the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) number unless it is a real emergency.

3. Dial 1777 for private ambulance service. SCDF charges $274 for non-emergency cases taken to the hospital. Private ambulance charges are $90 - $300 to ferry someone to the hospital ED during office hours. $120 - $500 after office hours.

4. The SCDF ambulance arrives within 11 minutes for 80 per cent of calls. There may be delays for less urgent calls if the demand for ambulance is high at the time.

5. Call 995 when someone suffers a heart attack, seizure, breathlessness, loss of consciousness, excessive bleeding, major trauma and stroke.  NOT toothache, constipation

6. It takes about 30 minutes for the ambulance to get to the scene, assess the situaiton and return to its base should it find NO injured party (e.g. people who call for ambulance but were absent on arrival of ambulance).

7. In 2023, SCDF receives an average of 676 calls a day, so every non-emergency or false alarm "takes away an available resource for an emergency".
