5798. In Memory of Gatsby

Gatsby the Bichon Frise as a 4-year-old enjoying his evening exercise in a Perth park in Melbourne with my son. My wife and I were visiting him in his final year undergraduate vet studies and we were joyful that he did not stray off his studies. 

My photography skills were minimal as I used the P mode to take all photos, as that was recommended by a friend. P mode is like Automatic mode. Just shoot and hope for the best.

Gatsby returned to Singapore with Dr Daniel Sing who graduated.

Gatsby lived to a ripe old age of 17. The life span of Bichon Frise is 12 - 15 years. He passed away in his sleep on 23 May 2023.

Image was shot hand held by Shan to obtain a good view. Image 1/2 was a bit blurry.  I had to use Photoshop 80% sharpening. Normally, 30% or less will do if the image is very sharp. Image 2/2 was blurry and not useful.

Lean on window with phone plus hand, focus on containers and shoot to get sharper image. Or put phone on ledge of window if it is useful. Handholding images can be a bit shaky at times.

On 30 May 2006, I visited Ikebukuro, Tokyo. It was bustling when I went out at 5.30am from my hotel. Seibu ikebukuro is a large department stall with links to a train station and a food court.

At 5.44am, I walked past two homeless persons sleeping outside the Seibu store. They slept on mats and left at around 6am.

Life is unpredictable. There are many reasons for being homeless and the State usually helps such people.

Every developed country including Singapore has homeless people.  This photo shows that Seibu Ikebukuro was kind to the two homeless people on 30 May 2006.

1/60 sec, f/3.1, ISO 200. I used camera flash. Probably 'P' Mode was set.

Today is 1 April 2024 (Easter Monday). I hope the two homeless persons have had bounced back and are living in a home.

"vagaries of life" refers to the unpredictable and often capricious nature of life. For example, "We are all subject to the vagaries of life. Although we may do our best to prepare for whatever may come our way, we may still end up homeless.".

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Hamster's eyes were dull. Use Photoshop "Dodge" to brighten the eyeballs.

Tumour left lower lip. Pet hamster. 9 Jul 2009. 

Canon 40D, 42mm, 1/1000sec, f/11, ISO 400. 

My vet case in 2009. The camera used was a Canon 40D. I used "P" Mode which is now NOT advised.
Today, I use Photoshop DODGE to brighten eyeballs as they were very dull. Now the image looks better.

Photoshop to erase scratches and oil spills.

1. Take 3 images. One of 3 is used as the other two has people around the taxi. Passersby cause distraction.
2. The photo is cropped as there is the RAVS signboard to the right and above the boot of the taxi. This signboard is a distraction. Try not to include it in the photo in the first place.
3. The scratches on the taxi and on the two wheel hubs are erased using Photoshop. They make the photo look unattractive.
4. Oil spills on the sloping pavement are erased using Photoshop.

In this way, the image of City Taxi with the yellow sticker looks good. Lots of time is needed to use Photoshop, but it is necessary.

The Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC) has stated that more than 10,000 city taxis are currently operating in the Yangon Region, and they have completed the process of affixing yellow line stickers on the sides of their vehicles.

 
The YRTC issued a directive for city taxis to install these yellow stickers, which will help them stand out from other vehicles on the road. The installation process is scheduled to begin on 1 November 2023, and it will continue for three months until 31 January 2024.

 
City taxis that install the stickers during this specified period will receive a subsidy of K5,000 to cover the cost of the stickers, including the design and cutting. Any taxi vehicles that do not attach the yellow line sticker to their sides during the mentioned period will face legal action under Section 96 of the Vehicle Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Law.
