NATIONAL
STEPS CHALLENGE.
The
Singapore government offers a free tracker watch and recommends
10,000 steps to walk per day, with at least 150 minutes of moderate
to vigorous physical activity (MVPV). This program aims to get the
residents to exercise and to reduce obesity leading to diabetes and
heart diseases.
I
find the tracker useful as I can monitor my daily exercise from the
data which is uploaded online via the App.
DEMENTIA.
Exercise moves the muscles and blood circulation for sedentary senior
citizens and younger people. Blood reaching the deeper parts of the
brain is said to prevent dementia.
SARCOPENIA. Physical
exercises tone up the muscles, preventing sarcopenia in the elderly.
Sarcopenia is
characterized by loss of muscle mass, strength, and function in older
adults.
Signs and symptoms include weakness, fatigue, loss of energy, balance
problems, and trouble walking and standing.
MOTIVATION
FROM THE TRACKER. Without this tracker watch and online data, I was
not walking much.
HEALTH
SCREENING AT THE SINGAPORE GENERAL HOSPITAL ON 24 MAY 2023. I have
borderline high blood pressure at 144/80. I aim to walk at
least 5,000 steps to try to lower my borderline high blood pressure
naturally from 144/80 to below 140/80. This involves at least 150
minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity which is shown by
the App online.
