VET CASE. FOLLOW UP 3 months after Ehmer Sling.
Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow)
The 14-year-old poodle walks normally on his right hind leg on Day 44 after the Ehmer sling procedure.
This video taken on 12 Feb 2023 shows that the poodle can put weight and walk normally 3 months after right hip dislocation. No surgery was done, saving the owner a large amount of money.
Dr Daniel Sing had applied an Ehmer Sling and it had been successful in this old poodle.
There is little information on the success rates of Ehmer Sling in reducing hip dislocation in dogs of different sizes and breeds. The success rate using the Ehmer Sling to treat hip dislocation is reported in some veterinary literature as around 50%, but this is not a professionally verified case study.
REMOVAL OF THE EHMER SLING. Toa Payoh Vets' recommendation is AFTER 7 – 14 days of the Ehmer Sling on the dog to remove the Sling. In this case, the Sling was taken out by me on Day 4.
The dog has had recovered well to put weight on the right hind foot as evident in the video on Day 44.
The following conditions are required when applying the Ehmer Sling for hip dislocation in dogs:
1. The dog should be a small breed.
2. The hip dislocation should be dorso-lateral, but NOT
ventro-lateral.
