Hesperiidae are small to medium-sized butterflies with an average wingspan around 30 mm. They are usually drab brown or orange in colour. Skippers differ in several important ways from other butterflies. Skippers have antennae clubs hooked backward like a crochet hook, whilst butterflies have club-like tips to their antennae. Skippers also have generally stockier bodies.
A video of the Small-branded Swift seen in Yio Chu Kang Crescent forest on 28 Aug 2026 at 9.35am. It is a Skipper butterfly with small white spots on its brown wings, large dark eyes and hairy thorax. Tripod, Canon R5, lens 75 - 300mm. Bright sunshine.
