"Hammie is such an intelligent dwarf hamster," Ms Tan said to Dr David, Chinese man in his 60s, white hospital scrub, grey hair, bespectacled. Dr David is a veterinarian in his private practice.
Ms Tan said, "Hammie is one rare hamster. He stands up, clasps his hands to say 'good morning' to me!"
