5911. Urban development: Brownfield and greenfield sites.

A downside of urban development is that it can lead to gentrification and the dispacement of existing residents and businesses, esp. in low-income areas.

1. Gentrification is the transformation of a neighborhood from low value to high value. It is viewed as a process of urban development in which a neighborhood or portion of a city develops rapidly in a short period of time, often as a result of urban renewal programs, including real estate investment.

2. It is important to preserve heritage and nature. The URA will redevelop brownfield sites and "try to delay or slow down the need to open up "greenfied sites".

2.1. Brownfield sites are land plots with previous development on them.

2.2. Greenfield sites are places that have not been previously built on.
