TELE-CONSULTATION IMAGES MUST BE SHARP

An email from Dr Sing Kong Yuen to a Syrian hamster owner on 20 Dec 2022.

 

Thank you for 7 emailed images. May I propose the following to get sharp images for me to examine the ear tumour before I operate on Thursday 22 Dec 2022?

1. iPhone. Go to SETTINGS - PHOTOS - TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC - KEEP ORIGINALS. Ask someone for help.

2. Hand supporting the hamster for photography be placed ON TOP of a table to stabilise the hand. Your 7 photos of the tumours are blurry.  

3. Good lighting onto the ear tumour.

4. Do NOT zoom. Place the phone closer to the hamster tumour.

5. Background. A plain wall is best. Do NOT include furniture, toys etc in the background.

6. Email photos to 99pups@gmail.com.

7. Do not WhatsApp photos as WhatsApp compress the photos in most phones when sending them to me.

8. Attached is an example of poor quality photo sent by you.    
9. Best to ask an expert to help you do the iPhone SETTINGS to send ORIGINAL IMAGES for tele-consultation

Hi doctor, sorry to disturb you at this timing, my Syrian hamster has developed a lump over his ear and we noticed that it getting worse with a foul smell today. I would like to seek your help to guide me what to do. Tq

Good morning. The prominent lump inside the ear is likely an abscess which is filled with pus. The foul smell is from the infected red swelling as seen in your image. The treatment is an operation to lance the abscess and drain the pus. Anaesthesia is required. If you do not seek veterinary treatment, the abscess will enlarge. As it is painful, the Syrian hamster will continue to paw it.

In a few days, it may rupture, spilling out yellow or brown pus into the ear canal. The hamster will be soiled with pus which will be licked.

Eating well like normal, havent seen he scratch his ear, but i saw small dry blood stain on the lump

Likely a relapse of malignant lump. Surgery of bigger area including ear canal may or may not resolve problem. No surgery or delay… bigger, infection, bleeding, smelly, no appetite, death
How much if remove ear canal?

After ear canal removed, he will not have the ear again?
