Today we are going to a suburb called Cabramatta. It is in Fairfield City and has a population of around 20,000. More than 100km from Sydney.

It used to be a Vietnamese enclave in the 1990s when there was an exodus of Vietnamese fleeing the country by boat to Australia during the war.  It was a notorious hub for drug traffickers and drug users.

Crime and violence were rife then, but now very much cleaned up and transformed into a multi racial community, but still with lots of Vietnamese presence and influence.  For example, they celebrate Chinese New year, rice dumplings festivals etc  many shops there are operated by Vietnamese and they speak Cantonese and Teochew as well. The rich businessmen drive BMWs and Mercedes.

Eastern part of Cabramatta is predominantly Korean enclave while the Western part is Asian including Vietnamese, Indonesians, Middle Eastern, China Nationals, Malaysians

Many tourists come to Cabramatta to buy clothing and vegetables. Numerous vegetable shops in the vicinity. Green grocers or Fresh World are the vegetable retailers. Farms in the area - winter crops. (Queensland has most farms).

Very large and long shop selling Asian goods and products, but no image is available.

An image of the Friendship Arch below. Pigeons are free to be fed, unlike in Singapore where it is a penalty to feed pigeons.

A VIBRANT TOWN.
