On 27 Jan 2022, a young lady consulted Dr Sing Kong Yuen. One of her two sibling 8-month-old red-eared sliders named TERRA had swollen eyes and no appetite for many days. This video 1 showed Dr Sing and staff teaching the owner how to give oral multivitamins and antibiotics to TERRA. Despite Dr Sing's advices to hospitalise the slider for at least 3 days as he knows that the owner would not be able to give medication, the owner wanted to do-it-herself.

The owner did not accept Dr Sing’s advice to hospitalise the anorexic and swollen eyed red-eared slider for 3 days so that the staff can give medication and eye drops to the sick TERRA.

Video 3, 4, 5, 6. Toa Payoh staff feed and treat the INPATIENT anorexic red-eared slider. The owner decided to hospitalise the anorexic slider as she could not see full recovery when treating him at home.

VIDEO 6. Day 5 of inpatient. Eyes open. Active. Not eating in this video on 1 Feb 2022, but eating later in the afternoon. TERRA went home on 3 Feb 2022 as he had started eating. The owner was happy.

Day 6 of inpatient. Given medication and eye drops. Eyes open. Active. Not eating in this video on 1 Feb 2022, but eating later in the afternoon. TERRA went home on 3 Feb 2022 as he had started eating. The owner was happy.

VIDEO 3/4 RECUPERATION AT HOME

NARRATE THE FOLLOWING:

7 Feb 2022. TERRA is now home. He still has infections and pain in his eye as you can see him PAWING his eye in the video.

He needs a long period of recuperation and nursing as he had not been eating for many days.

Terra has difficulty in grasping and swallowing pellets.

Video shows that the recuperating slider has difficulty grasping the pellets. He has appetite but is unable to properly target the floating pellets and grasp them. "Why is it he cannot aim these days?" the owner WhatsApp Dr Sing. "Very time consuming for me to feed him by hand. We also fed antibiotics so many times but we wasted the medicine as he kept missing his mouth!"

Dr Sing advises more water depth, give smaller pieces of pellets and collect more medication from the clinic.

Video 9. 9 Feb 2022 at home. The slider is hungry but is unable to grasp the piece of salmon normally. The owner was very worried. Dr Sing advised her to be patient as the slider had not fully recovered from painful infections of the eyes and throat. He asked the owner to give much smaller portions of the salmon.

Within two weeks, the slider is able to grasp and swallow the pellets and salmon pieces normally.

Narration below is given as the video is run.

Video 10. 1 Jun 2022. TERRA eats normally. He has no SWOLLEN EYES OR SHELL ROT.

The owner has upgraded the housing layout.

1. She bought a new filtration system. See left side of of tank. It is a fish tank filter aquarium water filtration and oxygen pump from China,via online. It is silent in operation filtering the waste in the water. It increases oxygen in the tank water. Bacteria and fungi no longer accumulate inside the tank water causing eye infections and shell rot.

2. She bought a wider and bigger white basking platform so that the sliders have sufficient space to dry their shells under the ultraviolet light. (Show a different slide of the previous small basking platform with 2 sliders mounting each other).

3. The bigger glass tank with with a cover has dimensions 60 CM X 30 CM X 36 CM . Her cat cannot place his paws inside to "catch" the sliders and to dirty the tank water. Eye injury and infection may be caused by traumatic injury. For example, from the paws of the sibling slider hitting the eyes when both are crowded into the small basking platform. (show image of sliders one on top of the other.)

4. Sufficient depth of water now. The owner had added artificial leaves, ornaments and plants as before. The tank is bigger. The additions do not clutter up the tank as in the previous grey plastic container. There is space for the two sliders to swim freely.

5. No more Vitamin A causing swollen eyes now. Vitamin A is sourced from the vegetables and pellets fed. Salmon and chicken meat provides protein for growth.

CONCLUSION

He is seen resting on artifical foliage at left of video. All harmony with the two sibling sliders at home now as they have much space to exercise and not injure each other by basking on a small basking platform as in April and May 2022
