1. HOOK for video production. 16 MAY 2022. This owner's video is taken 5 days after vet treatment of the Syrian hamster with swollen and painful private parts. The owner sent me a short clip of her Syrian hamster exercising the wheel as requested by me. He is normal after the neuter surgery on 11 May 2022.
2. HISTORY. 11 May 2022. NEUTER by Dr Daniel Sing.
During the first consultation earlier, the owner was given painkillers and antibiotics for the pain and inflammation in the "swollen" testes, injured by some metallic clips on the water bottle. The owner requested neuter as the hamster was still irritated by the "swollen" private parts and was declining in vigour and activity. She did not want to wait and see. Neuter was done on 11 May 2022. I advised NO cycling for 14 days after neuter at Toa Payoh Vets.
3. MYTH. Some 5 - 10 years ago, there is a myth in hamster forums that hamsters will surely die if they are put under anaesthetic. This is incorrect as modern anaesthetics do not kill a normal hamster undergoing neuter. Neuter is seldom performed in the male dwarf or syrian hamsters as a routine.
4. In Toa Payoh Vets, we perform neuter on cases of infection, abscess and traumatic injury of the testes. Neuter is one of the surgeries we offer.
