Common tortoise beetles include golden tortoise beetles, mottled tortoise beetles, striped tortoise beetles. 

A quarter of an inch long, the body margins are extended to cover much of the head and legs.

Referred to as "gold bugs", they are flat underneath and almost squared

 I saw one white one in Yio Chu Kang Cres.

True Bugs This group of insects is very large, with around 75,000 species worldwide. Around 1,700 of these can be found in the British Isles. This group of insects has been found in India.
