E-collar on for past months.
How to help this 14-year-old Shih Tzu who has an itchy neck AND painful dew claws of the back legs for over 4 months?
This 14-year-old Shih Tzu, Male, wears an E-collar for over 4 months to prevent him scratching his neck. The owner had the dog treated for ear infections in Jun 2021. The ears were seen to be clean and free from debris in 15 Nov 2021, but the neck on left side was extremely inflamed. A fungal culture is in progress.
It is not normal for a dog to wear E-collar for over 4 months to prevent neck scratching. More than one review with the vet in this case, must be done, as there is a cure for his type of skin disease.
Dew claw inflammation and infection in both hind legs caused a lot of stress and pain to this dog. The owner agreed to the treatment which involved intra-lesion injection of a steroid and bandaging of the right hind paw for 2 weeks. The dog's ulcerated RH paw is much improved now as at 1 Dec 2021.

4. Quality of life for the old companion - free from Elizabethan collar and itchiness or tolerate such skin diseases ?
5. Immune system depressed by chronic skin diseases - smelly skin - smelly dog. Hard to recover. Euthanasia.
