EAR ABSCESS

                                              EAR TUMOUR

Sometimes, the owner procrastinated or had no time to seek early
veterinary treatment when the abscess or tumour is small.
Sometimes, the family vet does not perform hamster surgeries but prescribe antibiotics which are ineffective in treatment abscess. The abscess forms a capsule over time and a large blood operation is needed.

INTERNS TO ADHERE STRICTLY TO THE PROTOCOLS AND THE MOVIE FORMAT IN VIDEO CREATION

Dr Sing Kong Yuen of Toa Payoh Vets spends resources and time to provide young people wanting to be vets, the  opportunities to know more about veterinary medicine and surgery.

Internship is a time to learn. To learn, the intern needs to adhere strictly to instructions given in the video creation. Many of these young interns tend to insert their own foot prints into the video creation or production.

For example,  "click LIKE if you like this video", "thank you for viewing", using the same slides as in the previous videos, not checking the spelling and grammar.

These inconsistencies and monotonous lethargic narration as well as not sticking to a format leads to disharmony and confusion in video viewing by the owner.

INTERNS need to learn to accept instructions although being young, they have their own ideas and influences from the social media.

See the video as an example of not adhering to the format for video description protocol to be sent to owners. The proper format should be as follows:

1. Today is Day 3 of inpatient service, 3 October 2020, 10 am.

2. This female 15-month-old dwarf hamster had a large neck lump removed by Dr Daniel Sing on 2 October.

3. The wound is clean and the stitches are in place (NO such footage was shown by the intern).

4.  Today, the hamster weighs 50g, is active, eats, drinks, pees and passed stools normally (see video).
