4065. Reyna. A vomiting Cairnhill Terrier has a swollen abdomen. Why?
"Vomited yesterday!" the guy said. "His stomach is bloated. What is the problem"
"How many times did he vomit?" I asked.
The guy phoned his domestic helper.
"3 times."
"What did he vomit out?" I asked.
"Food".
"Any other vomitus like gastric acid?"
"No, that's all."
I did an abdominal palpation. A firm large orange-sized swelling in the anterior part of the abdomen. Slight discomfort but no pain. Some gas, not so smelly, shot out from his rectum.
"Best to have an X-ray to check for gastric distension," I advised. "The diagnosis is likely to be gastric distension". X-rays were approved by the owner. The X-rays showed a stomach much distended 10 times with food.
