4047. Thick tartar in a 5-year-old X-bred dog. Dental scaling needed.

Jan 2, 2020. Thursday

"Can you prescribe some medication to dissolve the thick tartar in my dog's cheek teeth?" the man in glaring sunglasses asked me. He did not want his dog to undergo anaesthesia.

"The tartar is so thick and it must be cracked first. No drugs can dissolve it," I advised dental scaling. The dog was in a shelter as the owner could not accommodate him in his apartment. The dog also had itchy right thigh and rashes. So there were two medical conditions.

At 50% domitor and ketamine at 0.4 ml and 0.5 ml respectively IV, the dog was sufficiently sedated and dental scaling was done. Antisedan woke him up and he went home one hour later.
