ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

1. DIGITAL IMAGING SKILLS

   
   1.1 Acquire digital imaging skills through daily photography. You will find such skills very useful in your career and daily life. I started around 20 years ago for my professional veterinary case studies and record the images in my website, www.toapayohvets.com when the world wide web or internet started. The webpages started as grey and white, but now, you get colours.
   
   

1.2. Handphones are good but DSLR cameras give much sharper close-ups and zooms.

1.3. Earn a PASSIVE income from photography. I started posting my best images at www.shutterstock.com/g/toapayohvets in Sep 2019. 

As at 14 Jun 2022, I have sold 1,064 downloaded images and 5 videos, earning US$326.15. If you are calculating, this amount is not worth the time spent as I have earned US$0.30/download! But I don't have to worry about maintenance, marketing and getting payments. My buyers are global. This is passive income which depends on the quality and type of images buyers want. 

As at 27 Dec 2023, I have uploaded 6,414 images which are approved by shutterstock.com. I put them in 54 published sets.

1.4. Document your best photos in a blog for later references and to monitor your digital experiences.

2. PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS. 

2.1 Use the ‘P’ Mode as a beginner.
2.2 AV Mode, AF, single point focus, continuous mode is advised even for beginners. 

3. For the pomegranates shown in this blog, I have upgrade my camera to use the Canon Mirrorless 5R, 24-105 mm lens and had used the AV Nide

 

Hand-held, bright 9-11 AM sunshine helps get good pictures. Focus on the fruit nearer to you.

For those who appreciate photos, this photo has good composition and tells a story of a busy airport, in my opinion.

You see a plane about to taxi (far end, background), while waiting for the other plane (R) to complete taxiing. You see the Cathay Pacific plane waiting for passengers while the SIA planes are parked in its home ground.

SINGAPORE - 5 DEC 2023: "The Climb" is a ciment fondu figurative sculpture by Ng Eng Teng, 1978, commissioned by the HDB (Housing Board) for its ex-HQ in Bukit Merah. Relocated to Toa Payoh in 2004.

One of those rare cosy coffee outlets I would like to meet up. It has the design and ambience to entice me to drink coffee inside the cafe. I am surprised that the overall image is sharp. You can see the text on the walls.

 Good morning. A photo of a drink in Hong Kong Pacific Coffee cafe on the eve of a wedding anniversary of decades brings back memories to the viewer. You can actually see the eye of the waiter and text of Pacific Coffee's mission on its walls.

See the red square on the wall. Pacific Coffee's motto (not mission) says "The Cup, The Thought, My Way", we strive to offer customers a total lifestyle experience. 'The Cup' – Brewing a quality cup from the heart '.

I focused on the 87-year-old lady whose sister was the "Birthday Girl" in the Hainan Group Tour.

One parent had white horizontal creases on the back of his brand new shirt. Committee members sat on a bigger table. Mr T T Wong (blue-red tie, on stage) is the Chairman of the Association. The herbal duck (table on R) did not look popular. A difficult photo to take due to different lighting scenes.

I focused on the 87-year-old lady whose sister was the "Birthday Girl" in the Hainan Group Tour. Photo at 3000 px, can be printed at 8" x 10".
