PART 1/2. Oxytocin injections do NOT guarantee egg laying in every red-eared slider.

30-year-old female red-eared slider had hind leg paddling in March 2023 and was treated by Vet 1. She had no history of egg laying in the past 30 years.

She had been confined to the bathroom in a tub and left there for over 20 years. The young lady who grew up with this slider took over and gave her much freedom to roam and eat good variety of food in her new home.

Part 1/2 shows the history, X-rays showing 3 retained eggs and oxytocin treatment at Toa Payoh Vets.

Oxytocin injection was given by Vet 1 about one month ago in Mar 2023. But no eggs were laid. The owner consulted Dr Sing Kong Yuen of Toa Payoh Vets when her slider started hind leg paddling in Apr 2023. Will she lay the 3 eggs when given oxytocin injection? Video shows the slider becomes quiet within 5 minutes of the oxytocin (0.5 IU IM AND 1.0 IU SC) and calcium injection by Dr Sing Kong Yuen. She would be going home to be observed as to whether she would lay eggs.

TRAVELS SINGAPORE. 13 April 2013. A standee of a policeman wearing the cream coloured beret is seen by me at Orchard MRT station for the first time. Real ones carrying M16 rifles can be spotted at Changi Airport and shopping malls nowadays.

4638. TRAVELS MALAYSIA. A beautiful modern airbnb semi-detached house rented in Bentong

3 Mar 2023: Sometimes, we can get an excellent accommodation from airbnb as in this example and video. A beautifully renovated modern semi-detached house in Bentong, Jalan Harmony was rented by my group of 7 people on 3 Mar 2023. The area is rural in Jalan Harmoni. The house is well renovated, with big bedrooms. It has a karaoke area on the 2nd of 3 levels. The rental was SGD $734.45 for 2 nights. We didn't do any cooking as we were mostly seniors and on vacation in a MPV rented by us. The driver opted not to stay with us.

4636. WILDLIFE SINGAPORE. The Oriental Garden Lizard in Lentor MRT station garden.

 Sat 8 Apr 2023.

It was bright and sunny at 10 am.  Hot too. I thought of the Oriental Garden Lizard I saw and photographed in this area a few months ago. Would I see him today?

A rustle among the leaves of a young tree. I saw the bright orange neck of the male Oriental Garden Lizard as he scurried up the thin tree trunk. This could be the same lizard, but now grown up older, fitter and bigger sized.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIP:
I took my Canon R5, lens 24-105mm, settings to TV Mode, 1/1000 sec, ISO Auto.  Focused on his eye and took more than 20 images. This photo is one of the best. It is for sale at www.shutterstock.com/g/toapayohvets.

ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. How an immigrant couple succeed in food stall business in Potong Pasir, Singapore. Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow)

SINGAPORE - 30 MAR 2023: Kimly Coffeeshop in Potong Pasir is a small eatery which has been renovated to provide a pleasant eating environment. It serves 12 stalls selling food like laksa and dim sum. Jia Jia Noodles stall is started by a young couple who are Chinese Nationals. Since my first visit and image of the stall in 2017, it is now a success food stall in a competitive environment as there are more food courts and hawker centres being set up regularly.

One reason for the success is hard work. This involves openig 24 hours 7 days a week is not for most local food stall operators. It is exhausting. But one must be present when food is needed by the heartlanders. In this case, long hours are important to succeed in intense competitive environment.

In countries like Australia, food courts may close early, but everyone does it. Here, there is no such regulations from the government.

Food quality must be present. The laksa was good for me. Hence I returned in 2022 and it was still good. I made this video to advise young people who wants to succeed. There is no substitute for hard work as more competitors open as the years go by. They don't work 8 hours a day in most cases.

4632. Hydrocoele in an aged Shih Tzu

 HYDROCOELE - A hydrocele is a collection of fluid within the tunica or processus vaginalis. In this old Shih Tzu, 10 ml of clear fluid was present in the left scrotal sac. Adult scrotal hydrocoele is due to traumatic injury from the Elizabethan Collar when the dog licks his hind paws.

Treatment is surgery - neuter Shih Tzu, M, Over 15 years old. Complaint was the dog was spinning and had pain in the scrotal area when bathed. I advised neuter earlier as the left testes was swollen about 5 x normal size, but the owner did not accept my advice.

2 Apr 2023. I followed up after over one month after surgery. The dog is normal and active. The family is very happy with the outcome. The abnormal "spinning" behaviour of the dog was likely due to pain in the left scrotal area - the dog was trying to lick away the pain. Hence he appeared to be "spinning".

Jan 2023. Video 1. The dog at home. He is normal and active. He has swollen left testes, but his owner did not accept my advice that the dog could have testicular tumour and it was best to neuter him.  

DIAGNOSIS:  Left Scrotal HydrocoeleSpinning behaviour was likely an attempt to relieve the pain on his left testes. “He felt some pain in that area during bath time,” the father said to me.
