 2. PHOTOGRAPHY of miniature blue wild flower.

This miniature blue wildflower is hard to photograph from standing as it is very small. Its petals are around 5 mm wide and it grows closer to the soil level. Bright morning sunlight shone on this flower. I managed to focus on the stamens and got a good photograph to share.

Photoshop. I used Ctrl A and Ctrl T to enlarge and crop this flower to a bigger size to view

5. PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE MINIATURE WILDFLOWERS IN SINGAPORE

15 NOV 2022: 11.30 am.|

ADVICES FOR THE YOUNG:  Perseverance and a tripod.

Photography of miniature wild flowers are very difficult as opposed to the big-sized flowers such as the Hibiscus flower.

Most of the miniature wild flowers I saw are on ground level. They spread by like a horizontal climber and are to photograph at eye level. This photo is able to show one such flower at eye level.

Sighting of this bluish-purple wild flower growing in the plantar box outside a Lentor Loop corner terrace house at around 11.30 am. I used a tripod and am able to get the flower at eye level.

A miniature wild flower. The bluish purple petal is about 1 cm long

4237. Three species of butterflies seen outside Jewel Changi Airport/Terminal 1 on Monday 29 Aug 2022. Tawny coster on 23 Jul 2023

Monday. Rainy morning. 29 Aug 2022, 5pm outside Terminal 1. More traffic now that Covid-19 curbs have been removed.

Today, NO face masks outdoors and indoors (except healthcare and trains). More people visit Jewel.

I expected no butterflies as most of the pink bougainvillea flowers have had dropped off.

Saw:

1. Four tawny costers.

2. Striped albatross (male)

3. Medium-size light green butterfly.

4236. Canon R5 focus on eye of wildlife

PHOTOGRAPHY TIP: FOCUS ON THE EYE OF WILDLIFE
The Oriental Garden Lizard is adaptable to urban living, hence you may see him unlike the local green species.

Canon R5 is said to be able to focus on the eye of wildlife. A tripod is needed to get a sharp image of the lizard who scurried away and up another tree when I got nearer. Yet he is curious about me, from a safer distance. He thinks he is invisible in the shadows. His head is in the shadows but the Canon R5 could capture his eye quite sharply!

4235. Photography tips - Heliconia rostrata flowers

Heliconia rostrata (Hanging Lobster Claw, False Bird of Paradise) is a large evergreen perennial with huge, leathery, banana-like, dark green leaves, up to 4 ft. long. Brilliant bracts of florets packed on thick stems.

Faces bright 9 AM morning sun give sharp pretty images.
Canon R5, P Mode.

Use PHOTOSHOP "Content Aware" to "fill" up white space on right of original image to get whole square full.

How to fill up the right side which is white? I had no idea.

Recently, I read a photo magazine and learnt from the writer who shares his knowledge.
Steps are "Photoshop - Fill - Rectangle - Content Aware". See below. It is not ideal for
this image as the leaves on the extension look weird,
but in some images, it will continue the scenery by extension!

Heliconia flowers in Singapore General Hospital garden do well in full sun to part shade in sheltered locations. The large, long-lasting flowers come in shades of red, orange, yellow, pink and green.

4234. Dew claw lick granuloma is so itchy. Video 1/2

8 Aug 2022. Veterinary stories by

Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow)

A case of a very itchy dew claw tumour

The dog could not stop licking his right hind dew claw all the time, given the chance. I knew about this case when the owner wanted to buy Banocin antibioitc powder as he found it “good” for the inflamed dew claw and neck. I had not seen this dog since he was a puppy more than 13 years ago.

The owner had washed the dew claw, cleaned, powdered it and bandaged the foot for months. The old Shih Tzu wore an Elizabethan collar for months too. He tried to rub it off but inflamed his left neck with his attempts using his paws.

The dog had two nights of "loss of balance, in-coordination and collapse" at two different periods of time. "Old dog vestibular disease" was diagnosed by the emergency vets.

After my surgical removal of this tumour around one month ago, antibiotics, heart disease medication and dental scaling, the dog is normal and has excellent appetite in my follow-ups.

I am glad the old dog is not forced to wear the Elizabethan collar day and night for months, as it must be stressful - he had mouth ulcers at one time although his teeth had tartar and he had no periodontal or gum disease. I advised heart disease monitoring and medication. "My dog barks now and wakes me up to go to the bathroom after midnight," the owner commented. "He had stopped barking before his dew claw surgery and other treatment."
