An old Shih Tzu pants again and again.

Hi good morning, Dr. Sing, our 14-year-old Shihtzu, her nams is Cookie (we sent her to Dr Daniel Sing on 2 occasions some years ago). Cookie started panting really bad the night before, stopped, slept, ate as per normal. The heavy panting started again last night and I noted her body temperature was warmer than usual, I sprayed some tap water on her coat, blew dry her coat and she fell asleep thereafter, this morning the heavy panting starts again, a few minutes after she woke up.

Dr Daniel suspected allergy. Treated with anti-allergy medication. Dog is back to normal.

Cookie's meal - Fish, Chicken, Carrot, Sweet Potato, Vegan Dry Food (Addiction) mixed with the medicines.

I believe she could smell/taste the medicines in the mix, didn't quite like it, I think.

Her usual self "spying at the neighbour" and bark at the neighbour @ 1st instance when the neighbour opens their front door.

Dog is OK now.

It is good to get early prompt veterinary treatment as persistent panting in old dogs can lead to death from heart failure.

Vet Case Study. A Penang dwarf hamster has a fiery red and large itchy tumour. What to do? Ms Tan from Penang Malaysia WhatsApp me in Singapore regarding her 18-month-old male dwarf hamster. Its tumour behind the left armpit was very large, hairless and inflamed red. "Surgery to remove this tumour is the treatment," I said. 

She got the Penang Vet to remove the tumour. The hamster bit off the stitches. The vet put on a tighter bandage. The hamster was active and eating well. But the hamster kept leaking out reddish fluid from under the bandage. The vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory tablet. He asked Ms Tan to crush the tablet and mix it with 10 ml of water. She would then syringe the liquid into the hamster's mouth. The hamster disliked the medicine and moved a lot. He died two hours later. 

Ms Tan speculated that he had choked on the medicine. "If the vet had given me a syrup instead of asking me to mix the powdered medication with water," Ms Tan said. "My hamster would not have had choked and died." This was a sad ending. 

In conclusion, EARLY removal of the tumour would likely have led to much less bleeding of blood due to a very large operation wound. The hamster would have recovered within 7 days and would be alive now.

It is uncommon to spot a "brand new" RSPCA (SPCA in yellow alphabets) dog statue in Singapore as most are faded and its paint cracked in a hundred places. However, Photoshop is needed to remove the standing signs of coffee outlets to the left.

On 5 OCT 2024: I was attracted to this attractive sign along the quiet Kalidasa Avenue which includes the Teachers' Estate and a very large children's playground and Fitness Park area not seen nowadays in the newer estates .

Using humour and art to educate vehicle owners not to park illegally is an excellent approach by One Service Municipal Services Office and Land Transport Authority.

Keep up creating excellent signs to educate and entertain the vehicle owners.

The Front of the Eye

Light is focused into the eye through the clear, dome-shaped front portion of the eye called the cornea.

Behind the cornea is a fluid-filled space called the anterior chamber. The fluid is called aqueous humor.

 Behind the anterior chamber is the eye’s iris (the colored part of the eye) and the dark hole in the middle called the pupil.

 

 Directly behind the pupil sits the lens.

By helping to focus light as it enters the eye, the cornea and the lens both play important roles in giving us clear vision. In fact, 70% of the eye's focusing power comes from the cornea and 30% from the lens.

A house fly landed on the Desert Rose in 2 of the 25 photos I took in my garden.

I tried different settings of Manual mode to get the best photo. A fly landed on the flower briefly on two of the frames. A tripod is important when you take so many frames. It provides a better sharper photo.
