I am Dr Sing Kong Yuen, veterinarian at Toa Payoh Vets in Singapore.

Whenever I see "Tzu Chi", I recall the kindness of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore) towards a sick dog and her owner in 2007, around two decades ago.

"The owner has HIV, " the female leader phoned me. "His dog has a breast tumour which grows to a gigantic size over the years. We wish to make an appointment for surgery."

This tumour was more than twice the size of the Thai mango. The volunteers got his dog operated by me at Toa Payoh Vets by arranging transport and paying for the veterinary costs.

The cross-bred dog was able to live a normal life free from the heavy burden. She's was a dog, not human, but the Tzu Chi Singapore volunteers had compassion for an animal needing healthcare. They acted.

Today, I share a photo of this Foundation building successfully taken from my car on the way to the airport on 11 Nov 2023 at 9.10 am. It is very difficult to capture a sharp photo of the building facade from the expressway. 

The technical details are: Canon R5, Shutter Priority. 24mm, 1/1600 sec, f/4.5, ISO 320. One shot only as my driver Daniel Sing was on the expressway and I did not ask him to slow down.

FOLLOW UP:

 Some 6 weeks passed. Did the dog survive after the surgery? I had not phoned the owner. If the dog survived, she could live for a few more years. 

I asked Ms Ng who reminded me that I had not billed the Foundation for the services. This Foundation is good at accounting and pays for services rendered.

Did the dog survive? Is she fatter? I asked Ms Ng.

The female dog's breast cancer was a heavy burden. It ulcerated and would be infected over time as it got dragged on the floor. She was well cared for by the sick owner with HIV.

Saturday 20 Jul 2024 - Gardens by the Bay staff told me that my tripod is not permitted to be used on weekends. So I converted it into a monopod so that I can take a sharp photo of the Natal Lily flower.

SETTINGS ARE:
20 Jul 2024: 1.35pm
Canon R5, mono-pod, 105 mm, 1/160 sec, f/8.0, ISO 200.
AV mode is better as lighting changes fast. Some sunlight falls on the flowers.

On 12th July 2024, TR, a 2-year-old Male entire Maltipoo, 3.76kg, 38.5 deg C was neutered.

 

 

 

 

His physical examination showed no abnormalities discovered except for the unilateral left cryptochidism. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Anaesthetic used were ketamine, medetomedine and isoflurane gas. Two testicles were removed at Toa Payoh Vets.

 

TR  recovered from anesthesia and went home, with medication. He did not need to return for stitch removal as the stitches were absorbed. 

( Ask owner for a video of the dog 14 days after neuter). 1-minute

Cryptorchidism means one or both testicles fail to move into the scrotum.  

 

If both testicles are retained in the abdomen or under the skin, the dog will be infertile. Cryptorchidism can happen in one or both testicles.

GOOGLE REVIEW. 

On 1 Jun 2019, my wife and I checked into Lanson Place. I like the kitchenette inside my room which is well maintained and clean. The staff is well trained and very helpful. Location is very good as it is walking distance to the subway station.

Now it is 15 Jul 2024. I share a photo of the Lanson Place sign. Is the signboard still there? Will the management email to me the recent signboard to 99pups@gmail.com? I will very much appreciate it.

In conclusion, for the staff and management - 5 stars for good work.

5942. Hong Kong housing data

 Ref: Sunday Times. Sunday, July 14, 2024. 

Hong Kong recorded its hottest day so far in 2024 on July 7, with temperatures reaching 35 deg C in several areas. The heat forced lower-income households to spend even more of their limited budget on higher water and electricity consumption.

Subdivided units typically are no bigger than 150 sq ft, about size of a standard parking space in Singapore.

Rooftop huts range from 100 to 300 sq ft. e.g. metal-encased rooftop structure in Kowloon

Cage homes as small as 15 sq ft, smaller than a single-sized mattress.

Poor ventilation and materials like metal sheets which absorb and trap heat are used in such housing. They turn the homes into "ovens".  Residents seek relief by staking out air-conditioned malls, libraries and other public facilities.

Over time, children's physical discomfort (insomnia, bad temper) affect their mental, emotional and behavioural development and school performance.

 

Average wait for public housing is around 5.8 years. A transitional housing scheme is still awaiting roll-out in 2025 at the earliest. 

On July 8, the Housing Authority announced a raise in the public housing rents by 10%. Tenants would, on average, pay HK$230 (SR40) mor in rent monthly from January. 

A 2021 govt report - one-third of households living in subdivided flats earn a monthly income of at least HSR20,000, exceeding their public housing income ceiling. The limit is HK$12,9940 and HK$19,730 for one- and two-person households respectively.

Prospective home buyers have turned to the rental market, putting off home purchases due to persistently high interest rates and expectations that property prices will fall further.
