PHOTOGRAPHY OF BIRDS. Sometimes, birds are too far away or they fly off if you go too near them. They need a safe distance from people.

This rose-crowned fruit dove or pink-capped fruit dove (Ptilinopus regina) in Bird Paradise was photographed perched on a tree near to the feed bowl of fruits. Two bigger birds were on the feed bowl and so he got to wait for them to go away as one would step into the fruits and the other would peck at him. He was the smallest size of 3 birds I saw.

Focus on eye.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Historical record of dragonfly. The lotus pond near K K Hospital in 22 Apr 2010 is now a construction site.

A brilliant red dragonfly hover over the lotus flowers in a lotus pond, Kandang Kerbau Hospital in 2010. The pond is filled up and there is a construction site as at 14 April 2024.

This red dragonfly and other species are very rarely seen in the Botanic Garden or Gardens by the Bay. I believe it is extinct as its habitat has been, over the years, regularly sprayed with insecticide to kill the female Aedes mosquitoes to prevent dengue fever. 

Canon 4OD, 70-300mm, 300mm, /640sec, f/5.6, ISO 400. I used the "P" Mode in 2010, but the AV or TV Mode ought to be used.

Use sunlight and shadows. Rarely do I encounter such a good photo situation where the afternoon sun rays at 2.36pm shines onto the pack of cigarettes to create a shadow which looked like part of the cigarette brand logo. The pack was placed on a red pink bench in a public park I was visiting.

7 Apr 2024: The National Library Building and the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library comprises two blocks.

I visited the new re-opened Central Public Libary at the basement of the building. It is  much well curated and spacious inviting visitors especially kids.

Photography Tip: Take the signboard from inside a car as it is difficult to get a good angle.
