SINGAPORE WILDLIFE. A young
Oriental Garden Lizard looks for insects for breakfast. Esplanade
Forecourt Garden, Sunday 22 May 2022. He is very alert. In Video 2/2,
you can see him head bobbing and scurrying up the pole, probably to
eat an insect for breakfast.
ADVICES

Acquire digital imaging skills using your handphone.
The 5 images are taken by a 72-year-old ex-Singaporean in Australia,
with some guidance from me. His handphone is an old model, the Xiaomi
Poco X3 Pro. But with practice and steady hand, he has sent me these
good photos. Some have had been accepted by shutterstock as stock
photos. Try not to waste your younger days. Snap good phone photos
and learn how to create good quality images for yourself, for your
family, for your memories. Maybe for stock photography to earn a
passive
income.
PHOTOGRAPHY TIP. F/16 gives you sharper
views of background Use tripod. Focus on head of cyclist. Canon
R5. AV Mode, F/16, ISO 100.
The Jubilee Bridge is crowded on Sunday
mornings with locals exercising and groups of toursts taking photos
and enjoying themselves. Cyclists, runners, joggers, skateboarders,
kick-scooter and brisk walkers are vying for more space with families
and
children.
ELECTRO-SURGERY BUT SOME
VETS PREFER THE SCALPEL BLADE The dwarf hamster has a large "ear
wart" Veterinary story by Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS
(Glasgow) 11 Nov 2022
A large ear wart irritated this dwarf hamster for a few weeks as
it grew bigger. The owner decided to wait and see because the
administrator of the hamster forum advised her not to get the wart
removed as he might die under surgery.
However, she decided to proceed with the surgery and came for the
appointment.
Some vets prefer the scalpel
blade to excise the tumour. This is one method of surgery.
I prefer electro-surgery as
there is usually no bleeding after excision of the ear tumour in the
dwarf hamster as in this case. The hamster was anaesthesized using
isoflurane and oxygen gas.
The electricity just
sliced off the base of the stalked tumour held up by the forceps. You
can see the ear cartilage after excision. I apply potassium
permanganate powder to cauterise the wound in case there is
bleeding.
The hamster woke up with 10 seconds as he was on gas
anaesthesia. See the video.
The 2nd dwarf hamster also had an ear wart. It had involved the
ear itself. The ear was cut away. So the owner had two hamster
ear tumour operations done.
As the hamsters are old, the grey
one now has has a big mammary gland tumour. The owner did her
research and decided that it was cancerous as it grew big and fast.
So, she did not want any operation.
In the meantime,
the hamster licked her tumour bald. There would be skin infections,
wound and a foul smell later.
SMARTPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY. 1. Ningxia Night Market, Sunday, Dec 2022 by
Anthony Chan. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 - excellent image, can see
steam and name on neon lights
The image of the lady in face
mask (L) is very sharp. Make full use of the phone's night settings.
Thank you Anthony for sharing such a well composed sharp image. Those who like eating will see the steam of cooking (R), the chopped vegetables (L), the eye lashes of the tall lady in blue mask, the swatiska on neon lights. This photo makes the viewer feel he or she is there.

The Esplanade “durian” on 6 Nov is
sharp but the focus was on the face of the pink back-pack
skateboarder. Canon R5, AV Mode, F/16, ISO 100. Took 10 continuous
shots as she was walking. Only 1/10 (this one) may be sharp enough
for stock photo.
A video about the skateboarding ring used by young men to practise
skateboarding. It is in Orchard Road. It is a coaching centre named

10 Nov 2022. Singapore has many nail saloons. Treatment of fungus under the nail of the toes appear to be common. It cost me $45 to get my two feet pedicure treatment. My big toe of the left foot had an injury due to some heavy object falling on top of it some months ago.
I did not think much about it, assuming it was a bruise. I went to Vietnam on a packaged tour in Sep 2022. After 2 days of walks and the long walk down too many steps of different sizes and textures, my big toe of the left foot hurt. I could not wear the shoes anymore, but had completed the long walk down and up the steps of the Cat Village.
Inside the coach, Frances diagnosed fungal infection of the toe. "It is a common problem," she told me earnestly. "I got treatment with the spray bottle from the Sengkang nail saloon! I see them every 2 months for nail varnishing and treatment under a packaged deal."
So I went to the nail saloon the next day after returning to Singapore. A very small 300 sq ft shop. My nails were filed, the sides of the nails trimmed, excessive skin snipped off with special cutters. A bottle of anti-fungal spray was sold to me. "You can have 6 treatments at $300 pre-paid package," the young lady advised. I did not accept it.
Now it is nearly 5 months. The fungus still has not disappeared, but the nail has grown 5 mm. It will take much longer to get cured as I did not put the drops daily.
An excellent video project edited by
intern Ms Joly Lee, Secondary 3 student from the Convent of the Holy
Infant Jesus, Ang Mo Kio. Two cases of swollen eyes in two red-eared
sliders. Case 1 has swollen eyes for 2 months. Case 2 has swollen
eyes for a week. Case 1 has swollen collars and hides his head inside
the shell unlike Case 2 who is not worried by hiding inside the
shell.
This video shows two successful
treatment of swollen eyes due to poor diet quality and tank hygiene
at Toa Payoh Vets. The sliders took a few days to recover.
