3470. Pink-necked green pigeons seen on Thu Mar 28, 2019
Mar 28, 2019
Overcast sky unlike the bright sunshine yesterday
I drove to the 2nd exercise area at around 8.10am. "No pigeons today," I said to myself.
Suddenly a young pink-necked green pigeon alighted on the branch facing me. What a welcome.
He was young as he was smaller in size and length.

3465. A New Zealand Highway patrol appeared from "nowhere"
Mar 19, 2019
"Your speed was exceeded by 22km, more than mine," the older son noted. The son had a speeding ticket for exceeding 17km two days ago, at Wellington downtown and his mum had scolded him and stopped him from further driving on the way back from Wellington to Rotorua.
The road was straight. "Looks like the American Western movie," the mum surveyed the passing golden yellow flat grasslands as sped by. The speed limit was maximum 100 kmph in NZ, dropping to as low as 25 kmph around bends.
"You drive too fast, your friend cannot take photographs," the police officer said twice. My driver was guilty as charged and accepted the summons. I exited the car to take photographs of the purplish wild flowers.
The highway patrol car is very prominent. She still wondered how she did not spot it along this straight road without "hidden trees" where the police could hide. We just had lunch at the Rustic Restaurant. I was in the front seat conversing with her to ensure she did not fall asleep at the wheel. At certain times, I slept.
Speeding on good long roads is common in New Zealand. There are not sufficient number of electronic speed cameras.

Dec 11, 2019 exercise 1
After many months of practice, this is what I do to use the Transform tool to enlarge the subject (butterfly) without losing quality. The steps are as follows:
1. Save image as .tiff, not as .jpg, so that quality will not worsen compared to using .jpg at the beginning.
e.g. IMG_6283butterfly_original.tiff (see below)
2. To transform the above-mentioned image,
Press Ctrl A
Press Ctrl T (transform).
Move the corners of image to enlarge it. Enlarge about 150% enlargement.
3. I resize original .tiff image as follows: Goto IMAGE SIZE ---> RESOLUTION = 300 dpi (for printing image)
W = 685 pixels H = 514 pixels Resolution = 300dpi
Resample = Automatic (tick the box)
Save this image as IMG_6283LLbutterfly.tiff
4. Select Crop Tool. Use "Original Ratio". Now crop till you get your desired image.
5. Then I use the following STEPS:
Brightness/Contrast
Shadows/Highlights
Exposure/Offset
Vibrance/Saturation
Curves
Filter --- Sharpen --- Smart Sharpen
AMOUNT = 134% RADIUS = 3.2px REDUCE NOISE = 100%
6. Save as IMG_6283MMbutterfly.jpg
7. The resulting images are as follows:

...LL.tiff image |
...MM.tiff image |

Save as...WW.jpg image |

After cropping, image is 1800 x 1350 pix, 300 dpi. The image is of poorer quality. |

You need to spend time to practise to make perfect. Good luck.
