A rare sighting of Oriental Garden Lizard on 10 Mar 2021. A different one on 18 May 2021.

18 May 2021.  9 am. Yio Chu Kang Crescent secondary forest.

An Oriental Garden Lizard scurried away from me as I walked towards the chained entrance to the YCK Crescent secondary forest after parking my car. I didn't expect to see any on the grass, but he spotted me first and scurried away. His movement caught my attention.

The oriental garden lizard, eastern garden lizard, Indian garden lizard, common garden lizard, bloodsucker, or changeable lizard (Calotes versicolor) is an agamid lizard found widely distributed in indo-Malaya.

NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS  - OVIDUCT PROLAPSE IN A FEMALE RED-EARED SLIDER.

Veterinary Stories by Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow).

A big globular body part slipped out from inside the pelvic area to outside the vent of the female red-eared slider (HOOK). The owner WhatsApp Toa Payoh Vets. The slider had vent prolapse - specifically oviduct prolapse during egg laying. X-rays showed non-mineralised eggs in her. I inversed the X-ray to show my assistant who missed seeing them. Dr Daniel Sing anaesthesized and amputated the prolapsed oviduct. In-patient treatment for 6 days. No news from the owner.

Two months later in Mar 2021, I phoned the owner. The patient was leading a normal active life as evident in the owner's video to me. But the pet now lives alone as the male red-eared slider would have had dug at her oviduct or bit it if she lays eggs, pulling out the oviduct, causing the oviduct prolapse again.

Early emergency surgery by amputation of the oviduct prevented septic infections, gangrene and death of the beloved red-eared slider. Everyone is happy. In this case, no news is good news.

More tissues were dug out of the vent. Loud noises inside the tank alerted the owner. She saw blood streaming out of the prolapsed tissues reddening the water within a few seconds. She took out the female slider and placed her on some soft rags. She did her internet research to find out what was the problem. Then she WhatsApp me.
