3322. Oriental Grass Lizard seen in May 7 and May 12, 2019 (same tree)

May 7, 2019

During my morning exercise, sunlight shone onto this stationary lizard on a tree.

The lizard saw me

---------------------------------

May 12, 2019
I didn't expect any lizard. Saw a movement and this lizard, smaller than earlier one, was seen. He tried to hide behind the tree out of my view or climb up the tree. Looking for insects in this tree.

3321. Nature stories. Sat May 10 2019. Hole in grass area

Today is a Saturday.  I left at 7am to exercise. Bright. Sun has not risen abve roof of houses.A long slim bodied bird flew by. Looked like a crow. It flew to a tree opp the canal. I sstepped onto the grassy area forward to the railing to get a closer view.

My left leg slipped  into a hole to my knee level. No leg fracture or injuries. I was shocked.

The bird has red eyes n white polka dots. Light brown.

Several young pink necked green pigeons active flying to and fro. 3 of them chased each other if tree top. Or a couple perched inside the tree.

3320. INTERN. A 20-month-old dwarf hamster has large smelly tumours in the nose, face and ears.

May 9, 2019. Thursday.

This case study shows that the dwarf hamster has suffered a lot by scratching its body flanks bald and its large tumours till they bleed for the past 2-3 weeks as the tumours grow explosively large.

The tumours were very smelly as they were severely infected.

VIDEOS X 3

 INTERN
To produce a short educational video without most of the gory surgical procedures. Use a short footage of electro-surgery without blood seen.

TIPS FOR HAMSTER OWNERS
Do not delay seeking veterinary surgery to remove the tumours when they are much smaller as they do grow large, become bleeding, infected and smelly. The hamster will die from infections.

Red-whiskered bulbuls couple seen. As I got nearer the tree, they flew off.

Bright sun rays revealed a brown lizard with very long tail on tree branch. Several minutes of lying still on this tree branch to eat the insects.
Flies, butterflies, bees around this tree. This is the Oriental Garden Lizard or Changeable Lizard (Caloptes versicolor). It changes its colour to dark brown when threatened.

Young female PNGP perched on tree top nearby
Two young pigeons hide inside the same tree as bulbuls, flying off now and then as in past few days.

3318. INTERN. A 2-year-old dwarf hamster has a large red nose - nasal abscess

(Refer to reference videos x 3 below for editing. Refer to case file for gender of hamster)

Please create an edited short video (5 minutes if possible, without the gory surgical procedures) to show and tell the important points of the above 3 videos BY showing important footage only.

Hook - "The nose developed a small red lump initially," the gentleman said. "Now it is a large swelling. Is it a tumour?"

This 2-year-old dwarf hamster is the gentleman's beloved pet in Singapore. The owner is very busy as he works hard in the financial district of Singapore (video footage of Singapore's downtown if possible).

He was full of energy, greeting the owner when he comes home from work in the business district.

He had not been sick till now. As dwarf hamsters live up to 2.5 to 3 years, he is considered old. With old age, tumours may develop. Has he developed a large tumour? Is there a cure?

Title: A 2-year-old dwarf hamster has a large red nose - nasal abscess

INTRODUCTION
Define: Abscess

DIAGNOSIS
Physical examination - soft swelling about 8 mm x 5 mm x 3 mm in size. Likely to be an abscess (video footage of discussion with owner during consultation. Use whole footage if necessary).

DIFFERENTIALL DIAGNOSIS
Tumour, abscess or abscessed tumour.
1. A tumour is possible as the hamster is aged. It will be hard
2. An abscessed tumour will have hard and soft areas.
3. An abscess is feels soft if it has existed for some days. .

TREATMENT
Gas anaesthesia is necessary to enable pain-free procedure. It also prevents stress and sometimes death due to the struggling and stress of restraint and surgery. A scalpel blade incises around 10 mm into the midline of the nose and the pus is drained. (Video without the gory blood).

POST-OP
24 hours after surgery, there is residual pus expressed from the wound in the morning. This has been removed using a cotton bud tip. The wound closes. The hamster goes home in the afternoon. He recovered fully in one week.

CONCLUSION
Prompt veterinary attention results in a clean incision using scalpel and rapid recovery. Delays will result in loss of appetite, possible death. The untreated abscess will rupture into a large irregular shaped wound, spilling blood, pus and bacteria onto the face and mouth. The hamster will lick up the pus and swallow it, leading to loss of appetite from illness and possible death.
