She was over 70 years old, slim and friendly as expected of the movie counter food lady. She had one ear piece on her right year.
"What are you wearing on your neck?" I enquired about a fabric pouch containing some rectangular object like a pager of the old days after I order a small cup of Sprite for $2.60. "It needs only one battery," she took out the object with the word "Rionet" on it. She put the ear piece to let me listen as she spoke to this object. I could hear it. One has to speak directly to this microphone.
We had a long chat. Her husband passed away due to colon cancer as he had stopped taking the Chinese herbs. He was successfully treated by Singapore General Hospital and was on remission for 5 years. She blamed herself for forgetting to boil green bean soup for him to drink daily.
Her message to me was "Your life is in your hands!"
