Thursday, 30 Mar 2023: 

The Potong Pasir town has a beautiful clean and green Kallang River. A small plot of garden with a fitness corner equipment is near the river. This spot is tranquil and deserted at 12 noon. Two butterflies fluttered past me. 

 I set up my camera and tripod to video one grey butterfly perched on a leaf as a video is worth a thousand images. The place has these two butterflies and a yellow one. Would they pose for a video?

No such luck, but I was surprised when one perched on a leaf and allowed me to video him at 8 feet away. It is NOT a common occurrence. Here is the 1-minute video to share with viewers.

The Grey Pansy (Junonia atlites atlites) is seen in the Potong Pasir public garden, Singapore on 30 Mar 2023. Upper side is grey. Usually 2 distinct eye spots per wing.

4629. The National Steps Challenge (NSC)

“The group was too noisy,” Chis recalled the Malacca-Bentong trip with 14 people in two SUVs.
29 May 2023.


“It is more fun to be in a noisy group during a holiday,” I replied. "The conversations make the long road trips more enjoyable.Time passed fast." 

"How many steps you and your husband walk daily?" I asked as both wore the National Steps Challenge (NSC) watches. 

"I walk 10,000 steps in 2 hours," Sam said. "My brother did 20,000 before the NSC rewards are limited to 5,000! Nowadays he couldn’t be bothered."

“Sam walks 10,000 steps just like a robot. He does not enjoy the scenery!”, Chole said.

As far me, I walk for health, but managed 3,192 steps today 29 Mar 2023 as at 6.04pm. This was below the 5,000 steps advised by the books and NSC.

VET CASE STUDY: TREATMENT OF JAW ABSCESS IN A RABBIT.

Incision and Drainage is the standard treatment for abscesses in animals. However, in the jaw abscess of rabbits, this method may not work if the teeth are badly infected and deviated. In this case, tooth extraction and X-rays are needed and this can be expensive.

Poodle, F, Not Spayed, 17 years old.
Recumbent and anorexic for over a week. Bad breath, not eating, difficulty in breathing. 

Blood test showed high white cell count suggestive of blood-borne bacterial infection. She has excessive creatinine level such that it cannot be detected.
See lab test report below:

Owner's vet on 18th March had prescribed anti-vomiting medication, antibiotics and syringe feeding fluids.
Owner declined SC fluid therapy as the dog was suffering. As the dog had been treated and her condition has deteriorated with very poor prognosis, the dog was euthansed.

House-call euthanasia.

 22 Mar 2023.  Poodle, F, Not Spayed, 17 years old. Recumbent and anorexic for over a week. Bad breath, not eating, difficulty in breathing.  Blood test showed high white cell count suggestive of blood-borne bacterial infection. She has excessive creatinine level such that it cannot be detected.


*Creatine levels have gone off the chart. This indicate that the kidneys are not working normally. This is confirmed by the high BUN and phosphorus. The dog is anorexic, recumbent, breathless, has bad breath and was given medication by Vet 1 to stop vomiting and seizures.
See lab test report below: Owner's vet on 18th March had prescribed anti-vomiting medication, antibiotics and syringe feeding fluids. Owner declined SC fluid therapy as the dog was suffering. 4627. Dental scaling of plaque prevents gum disease, bad breath and tooth aches.

 13 March 2023.

"I hear that old dogs that go for dental scaling will die," the young lady tolerated the bad breath.
"It is not a true statement," I replied.

"Many old dogs with heart diseases do not die. Your dog has no heart disease. However, we will do a blood test to check the blood cells, the liver and kidneys."

Blood test showed normal readings except for low creatinine levels which are not serious as to cause death under anaesthesia.

The owner will wait for another month to take a second blood test to see if the creatinine levels will be normal.

11 Mar 2023. Took Finnair for first time to Helsinski. Upgraded to Economy. 

All 9 cabin crew were Singaporeans as Finnair originates from Singapore. If it originates from Bangkok, all crew will be Thais.

Epaulettes on waist coat of men in addition to tie and long sleeves. For men, 3 bars mean manager. 1 bar means non-management. Very friendly and helpful staff.
