Friday. Morning 7.30 am GRAB to airport. SIA plane photos. Premium Economy Seast. "No branded coffee cup," leading steward with red striped tie said to me. "Sustainability of profits. Save money. SATS also cater to other airlines. So, cannot be using branded SIA cups." The new stewardess had asked him to answer my question as she could not find any cup with SIA logo in the plane. In fact, this brand-less cup is just introduced.
Premium Economy Seat. Much more comfortable. Can hang your suit. See photo.

Rosewood Hong Kong. Luxury hotel. No desk for computer work. In bathroom, I used the dressing table to do downloading of files to PC. Bathroom is large. Small white tub in middle. Shower room with two showers at both ends. So not cramped. Head shower from middle of tall ceiling. Marble black and white walls and mirrors. Sinks are stainless steel.
Given Room 3104. I asked for change as "4" is death in Cantonese and Dan was attending wedding.
Train from Tsim Sha Tsui station to Central Station, ate Japanese curry chicken rice at Yonindro.

Maid and small girl excellent relationships. Girl takes her photo. Sits in pram. Volkswagon hot dog car.
Check out at 12 noon. I went to Hong Kong Station to take Airport Express. It has only one ticketing machine. The coin slot was jammed, so I could not insert the coins. The machine said "No change" but since it could not accept my $5.00 coin, it returned the $100 and two $10 notes. The fare was $115.
The customer service counter issued me the ticket. I missed one train owing to the faulty machine, but another arrived within 10 minutes.

TUES 21 FEB 2023. WHATSAPP TO DR SING KONG YUEN
Hello I am an owner of a Guinea pig. I have been watching your channel on youtube for sometime. I needed to reach out to you because vet in our country is very backdated and not as promising. I need some help for my guinea pig baby.
He was a healthy adult, male, weight :930 grams. He was neutered on 18th February. The following day due to not getting the right antibiotics for him, there is a swelling on the surgery site. The swelling isn't coming down. My local vet is suspecting this is an abscess.
Due to shortage of antibiotics, he has prescribed Cefixime instead of Chloramphenicol. I have been giving my Guinea pig Cefixime and syringe feeding him Since yesterday. Please help me out. I am in dire need of help.

JULY 2016 (This video).
This video shows the shih tzua 30 minutes after the operation to remove the womb. The dog had a dirty reddish brown vaginal discharge a few days ago, suggestive of open pyometra. Evidence-based medicine was practised viz: 1) X-ray showed swollen uterine bodies. 2)Blood test of increased white cell count. A few hours later, the dog, given IV drips, had recovered from anaesthesia and went home on the same day. Follow up on the next day, the dog had recovered.
JAN 2015.
She came for vaccination. I advised spay as she had false pregnancy with milk. The owner believed she had "menopause" since no bleeding was seen for the past 3 years. He did not want any spay surgery as advised by me..
CONCLUSION. Spayed dogs when they are younger will have prevented
the stress and worries of the dog passing dirty brown vaginal
discharge.

Grandma Judy is a Nonya. Her Nonya colleage in NLB asked her to attend the Nonya Baba 25th anniversary in Malacca, 2011. I had a memorable time experiencing and understanding her culture.
On 21 Feb 2023, a lady G.P in Kebun Bahru Family Health Clinic designated as doctor for LPA certification by the government, said I must take tablets to control my high BP or I will get stroke. BP on first reading was 158/90, 2nd reading after 20 min was 150/90. My family GP. My own GP later checked. It was 150/80 and he said it was high but I could monitor it for one month by checking every morning when I wake up.
Preferably for my age at 72 years, it should be 140/80. If my reading was 180/100, I have to take medication.

A funicular train is that of a railway on a mountainside that is operated by a cable balancing the ascending and descending cars. The pulley at the top of the mountain controls both cars so that the cars and passengers are counter balanced
in weight
A funicular railway transports people up extremely steep slopes.
Trains are pulled up steep grades with a cable. With this cable,
the steel wheels of the train don’t need to have traction unlike
ordinary trains, but can be used primarily to guide the train
along the tracks.
The funicular railway counterbalances two train cars on the
same track by using the weight of one to help pull the other
up the mountain. The Incline has two cars that ride on the
same single mile-long track. When the cars come close together,
the track splits into two as a “passing loop” for both cars to pass
one another. This single track, passing loop system, is used in
funicular railways across the world.
What is the difference between a funicular and a cable car?
A cable car differs from a funicular system in that its cars are not
permanently attached to the cable and can stop independently,
whereas a funicular has cars that are permanently attached to
the propulsion cable, which is itself stopped and started.

Passion flower (Passiflora incarnata) is a climbing vine with white and purple flowers. The chemicals in passion flower have calming effects.
Passion
flowers are rarely grown in gardens in Singapore. This was spotted in
a house garden in Lentor Loop.

Antibiotics had been given for the past 10 days.
Based on clinical signs of owner having observed that the hamster is still eating and peeing normally, female gender and increasing size of abdominal lump which is large and palpable by me, my first diagnosis of this female Syrian hamster of around one year of age is CLOSED PYOMETRA.
Abdominal tumour like
splenic tumour may be possible. Surgery (exploratory laparotomy) is
advised soon. Please phone 6254-3326 for appointment as soon as
possible.

On the way down the mountain, there are bright cherry blossoms blooming on both sides of the road. Because the sides are blocked by high mountains and strong winds, the flowers are very lush.
The winding mountain roads and streets are full of cherry blossoms. There are different cherry blossoms and colors.
Cherry blossoms and peach blossoms in front of the lobby and behind the terrace in our hometown are not lush this year. Because it is windy and rainy this year

The last time the cherry blossoms were taken was not in full bloom. My daughter asked her uncle to retake them. Yesterday he took them. Now they are in full bloom. There are bright reds and pinks. By April they are all withered. They are replaced by white cherry blossoms. This variety It is very noble and precious. I will ask my younger brother to go up the mountain to take pictures in April.
Sunday 19 Feb 2023.
Got a Grab ride home. The driver was a slim man with bald forehead and clean shaven face and hairs on his head. Oval shaped face. Thick black rimmed glasses. Fair. Face looked aged.
"How old are you?" I told him I am 72 years old.
"You think I am older than 50 years," he asked. "In National Service, my mates thought I was in my 40s"
"I work 5 hours a day on weekends," he told me. "I am not able to work 10 hours daily. Hence I don't get the incentives from Grab. This requires 30 rides. Those young men who could drive 30 trips would earn around $300 daily on weekends!"
He earns gross $25 per trip on average. So his Sunday gross for 5 hours will be $125. Less petrol, maintenance, rental of own car ($$40) and petrol, he would net $50. So it was difficult to meet ends meet.
Ex-farm worker in fisheries. No health issues.
16 Feb 2023, 6 PM. To get sharp image, put camera on the arm of this rattan chair (so it is stable). Place watch on seat of chair at right angle. Focus on “10623”.
I use back focus. Take multiple shots. I tried handheld, placing watch on car bonnet. All photos blurry. In this case, the Canon R5 camera was stable, hence image is not blurry. (Somebody’s discarded rattan chair outside Toa Payoh Vets)
VET
CASE. Video 5/5. A roborovski was bullied and bitten. Lost appetite.
What to do?
The owner bought two roborovski hamsters. "Buy
two to keep each other company," the pet shop girl advocated.
But for the last 3 weeks, Roborovski 1 lost appetite and had a
balding red area on the nape of the neck. The owner consulted me (Dr
Sing K Y) on 19 Jan 2023.
"It is a bite wound infection
of the skin, hidden under the hairs," I said. "Treatment
could be either at home by you giving the antibiotics and washing the
area with disinfectant daily.
“The alternative is that I
sedate him with anaesthetic gas and clip away the infected hairs
around the nape, wash and clean the nape thoroughly. You feed the
antibiotics via the food at home for at least 10 days."
There
is NO way anyone can restrain a healthy roborovski as it is a speedy
hyperactive creature. My assistant did not want to attempt it as she
knew from experience. The usual dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters
are much easier to restrain, but never a healthy Roborovski.
The
owner consented to sedation and clipping. 3 weeks later, the hamster
had recovered fully. This is the 5th
and final video summarising the case study. Roborovskis rarely can
live together. Roborovski 1 had to hide and run away from the
bullying and domineering Roborovski 2, but in the confines of the
cage, he got bitten. His nape skin was inflamed and infected –
hence he lost appetite for 3 weeks before the owner consulted me. He
took another 3 weeks to recover from skin infections after treatment
and now enjoys his sand bath!

NATIONAL STEPS CHALLENGE. The government offers a free tracker watch and
recommends 10,000 steps to walk per day, with at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous
physical activity (MVPV) to get the residents to exercise and to reduce obesity leading to diabetes and heart diseases.
I find the tracker useful as I can monitor my daily exercise from the data which is uploaded online.
Exercise moves the muscles and blood circulation for senior citizens and younger people.
Without this tracker watch and online data, I was not walking much.
This video showed me walking about 4,000 steps in the morning.
Today, before noon, I had walked 5,554/10,000 steps and had 10/30 minutes of MVPV
The rewards for achieving the targets are secondary.

Good morning. I used to walk around 2 hours during Covid-19 pandemic taking photos of the butterflies and wildlife in Yio Chu Kang and to de-stress.
In 2022, I seldom do brisk walks as the butterflies had mostly vanished owing to end of pandemic and increase in construction. The HPB fitness tracker as recommended by Frances is free of charge. Most important it has the free online record of the steps I take daily, without me having to upload and record myself.
If you use its features, you can check whether you walk more actively as there is a graph of your Moderate and Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA). MVPA is the one useful health feature (unless you have heart conditions or illness) - 150 minutes per week. Do your MVPA as it makes your heart beats faster to circulate your blood and lymph...make use of the MVPA graph to monitor. Start with 5 min per week...

16 Feb 2023: A row of beautiful variety of healthy plants and flowers outside the tall granite wall of this big corner house under construction along Lentor Road. Somebody has paid gardener to maintain it. Such beautiful flowers promote mental wellness in passers by.
Dim sum nowadays less salty.
Century egg porridge was not so smooth to the taste as the rice grains were bulkier.

SECOND CHANCE - Video 2/2
I videoed this Malayan Eggfly butterfly with tattered wings on 2 Feb 2023 (lst sighting) in the Lentor St Playground and garden which has no butterflies on most mornings I was there to exercise. On 12 Feb 2023, the sky was overcast with large grey clouds. "It would be raining dogs and cats soon", I said to myself. Still I went with my Canon R5 to the Lentor St Playground to exercise. This Malayan Eggfly was perched on another tree with similar leaves, posing for me for over two minutes to take photos and videos. A second chance. I got some good shots. SECOND CHANCE - Video 1/2
This tattered-wing Malayan Eggfly danced for me, perched on a leaf 10 days ago in 2 Feb 2023. Just 6 feet away from me, without fear.
I made a video. My photos were not good due to my inexperience at such close encounters. I wished we could meet again
I wished we could meet again. She was there on 20 Feb. Same place at Lentor Street Playground.
Perched on the leaf of another tree. She twirled in delight to show off her reddish-brown wings with white spots. A few rain drops hit us. She spread her wings to fly away before the sky opened up. A second chance for me to create a better video.
ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. Research to learn from mistakes and be prepared when you get a 2nd chance.

In
the West, being called a shrimp is usually
an insult reserved for those who are small, weak or thin.
1. The pronunciation of prawn (haa1 蝦)
in Cantonese sounds just like haa1 (哈) as in “haha”.
2. The expression caau2 haa1
caak3 haai5 (炒蝦拆蟹, literally “fry prawn, de-shell crab) means to swear
or use foul language.
Shrimp and prawns are completely different creatures. Yes, they're both decapods — which means they have external skeletons and 10 legs — but that's where the similarities end. Shrimp belong to the sub-order Pleocyemata, and prawns belong to the sub-order Dendrobranchiata.
Baan6 saai3 haai5 (扮哂蟹) is used to describe someone who is “acting like a crab” – in other words, bragging about their achievements.
Caau2 jau4 jyu4 (炒魷魚) literally means stir-fried squid but actually refers to someone who is being fired.

Many smartphone users do not realise that
movies should be created in the landscape mode as opposed to portrait
mode. Landscape images align with the horizon line. The photo is
wider than it is tall, to capture the vastness of a natural setting.
This view is landscape orientation or horizontal orientation. An
example of a the Oaks Coffee Co. movie story using the landscape mode
is illustrated.

VET CASE. FINAL VIDEO 1/2. PADDLING SLIDER.
The
slider paddles her hind legs non-stop stressing the owner. What to
do? In Singapore, most red-eared sliders live in the tank as over 80%
of the population lives in apartments. An adult female slider can
stress out the owner if she paddles her hind legs non-stop. Day and
night. She has no appetite. The owner can't sleep in peace. What can
the owner do?
The owner consulted me at Toa Payoh Vets. The first thing to do is
to X-ray to check for eggs inside the abdomen as leg paddling is
often a behaviour of egg laying. But this slider lives alone. Still,
lone ones do produce and lay eggs.
9 Feb 2023. Fei Fei passed an egg inside the water. She had paddled for 2 days and had no appetite for 4 days. I advised X-ray to check if there are eggs retained and stuck inside the abdomen
In this case, she has no
eggs as evident in the X-ray. I advised the owner to give her space
for exercise. Fei Fei was cramped inside a small tank with a pink
stool as a basking platform.
The owner bought a much bigger tank. I
advised outdoor exercise and sunlight at least 30 minutes a day.
Water filtration and hand-feeding cooked prawns mixed with the usual
Nutrafin pellets. Multi-vitamins with calcium smeared onto the
pellets.
It took around 10 days. Fei Fei stopped paddling and
revert to her ravenous appetite. The owner was very happy.
