He uses Canon EOS 750D, 28mm f/2.8 lens.  Very dependable, quick to use, light but robust.

In documentary photography, your subject s are humans. You are studying how they live, what they do, their hardships and triumphs. It gives the photographer the opportunity to better understand humanity, respect others and become a better person.

3608. A factory dog has yellow gums and eye whites. Jaundice.

An emaciated factory dog stopped eating - yellow gums and eye whites.

This emaciated 6-year-old female factory dog stopped eating for the past few days. I checked her gums and eye white. They were yellowish, indicating jaundice. Blood test confirmed jaundice. Liver enzymes were elevated. ALT = 323 U/L - normal should be less than 59 normal. AST = 81 U/L normal should be less than 81. Although the total white cell count was normal, the neutrophils were 93.3%, absolute 9.89 x 10^9/L. Normal should be around 80%. The lymphocytes went down to 6%, absolute 0.65 x 10^9/L. Normal should be around 20%. There is a possibility of bacterial infections although the dog had no fever. X-rays showed hard lumps of stools which were palpable. The factory owner did not want further treatment other than Zentonil tablets for the liver and antibiotics. The dog was given IV drip with antibioitc. She ate during the one-day in-patient treatment and went home. UPDATES AT: https://2010vets.blogspot.com/2021/06/3608-factory-dog-has-yellow-gums-and.html

To stop the hamster biting and scratching, an injection is better than oral. Within 24 hours, as this video shows, the inflammation and scratching had reduced by 50%. The hamster can live a more normal life. See Video 1/3 consultation to appreciate the outcome today.

Some vets may think injections will kill the hamster. You need to know the dosage.

ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. Passive income from shutterstock.com. Photos for sale

16 Jun 2021. ADVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.  EARNING PASSIVE INCOME FROM DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS. Images 5/6

There are many sources of passive income from the internet but they involve much hard work of acquiring the necessary skills and perseverance to know what the global audience wants to buy.

I provide two examples:

1.  Writing specialised topics like "how to"  or romantic fiction in kindle. Unless you are a gifted writer whose words flow from each character once you sit down to write, you will need to research the craft of writing romantic fiction. You can always start with novellas.

2. Digital photography. I have been taking digital photographs in the early years of the world wide web as a hobby and for my "Be Kind To Pets" veterinary articles at www.toapayohvets.com and at www.bekindtopets.com.  Also for my blog "Advices For Young People" e.g.  https://advicesyoungpeople.blogspot.com/

For Example 1, I have not published any writing on kindle as I have to learn the technical aspects of e-books.

For Example 2, I can say I practise what I preach about earning a passive income from the internet using my digital photography skills.

Go to www.shutterstock.com/g/toapayohvets. I joined Shutterstock in Sep 2019 not knowing what Singapore residents and the global customers want. My topics include Be Kind To Pets, Animals and Wildlife. Singapore people, events, scenes, flora and fauna. Travel and street photography

As at 16 Jun 2021, my image portfolio has 974 images approved by Shutterstock. 141 images were downloaded by Singapore residents mainly from Singapore. Some residents in countries like the U.S, Britain, India, Japan, Netherlands bought an image or two. My income is US$27.12 from 141 downloads. You will think that the money is not worth the effort! But this is passive income for a start-up.

Shutterstock claims to have more than 370 million images as at 31 Mar 2021. Therefore, the global and local competition to sell stock images is intense.

My point is that I don't have to pay rental or any fees to Shutterstock. I do have to pay fees to list images or products in Shopify or Etsy.

Shutterstock has rejected many of my images for not being up to standard such as "not in focus" as I am still an amateur photographer. I learn a lot and improve my photography skills from such rejections.

The following image has been rejected as I was photographing a moving person. Yet I find that it is a good image of the renovations of The Esplanade at a point of time - the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

I share the photo with viewers: (see instagram @davidsing1)

Rejection reasons (1)

Focus: The main subject is out of focus or is not in focus due to camera shake, motion blur, overuse of noise reduction, or technical limitations of the equipment used (e.g. autofocus searching, camera sensor quality, etc).

I am acquiring digital photography skills in depth by being rejected. I am getting to know what the global customer wants. It will take time to succeed earning at US$0.10 per image downloaded.

ANOTHER HAMSTER STORY

 1. INSTAGRAM  @toapayohvets

1 JUN 2021. BE KIND TO PETS VETERINARY STORIES. .
THE CASE OF THE SQUEAKING HAMSTER --- SHOW AND TELL
Dr Sing Kong Yuen, BVMS (Glasgow)

This 2-month-old male dwarf hamster’s fractured left hind leg was amputated at the knee level at Toa Payoh Vet 3 weeks ago. She consulted me on 27 May, as tele-consultations & photos were not as good as a proper physical examination.

"Now Hammie has two unusual behaviours," Ms Thompson said. “Firstly, he squeaked loudly for some time on two occasions. Secondly, he used his right hind paw or both front paws to scratch his left ear vigorously every day!"

"The intense squeaking suggested pain," I pointed to the bruised brown patch on the left scrotum. "Self-inflicted biting and friction on the bedding led to bruised genital and pain."  Ms Thompson was satisfied with my cause and effect explanation.

“As for the inflamed left ear, frequent scratchings with the right hind paw to relieve ear itchiness were the cause,” I explained. “Some dirt or sand had lodged deep inside the left ear canal.  I showed her the close-up digital photos of the affected areas to account for the behaviours after I treated the itchy left ear via ear irrigation.

SHOW AND TELL using CLOSE-UP PHOTOS gain the trust of the owner as the dwarf hamster's ear and scrotum are relatively small in area. Ms Thompson could see the inflamed areas clearly and she felt much happier after viewing the close-ups. “Please WhatsApp the photos to me,” she reminded me as she boarded her GrabRental taxi home to her Orchard Road condo to continue her work from home after lunch.

3602. Bicycle on East Coast Beach - Kat

11 Jun 2021. PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS. I PHONE 11. SINGAPORE - EAST COAST. IMAGE 1/4.  This i phone 11 image taken by a friend has good composition and is very sharp as you can see the foot prints. The curved line of lapping waves direct one's eye to the rock and the ships in the horizon. My comment is that the horizon is slightly "not horizontal".

It is 3.5 megapixels in size. I cannot submit it to shutterstock as all images must be at least 4 MP (megapixels) or larger and set at highest quality settings to produce an acceptable file dimension for submission to Shutterstock.

I use Adobe CC. Converted the photo from rectangular to square format. Then I add a blue sky on top. The image is now 4.0 megapixels in size and accepted by Shutterstock.
