1116. Aural haematoma surgery

Each vet has his or her own approach. For me, I prefer an "S-shaped" incision and place more sutures parallel to the incision to reduce tension. I do vigorous ear flushing and gave pain-killers and antibiotics post op.

A long straight needle with nylon sutures at 8 mm width horizontal mattress sutures will be ideal. My placement of knots are on the lateral side of the ear pinnae. I don't do ear head bandaging but it may be best done. The owner needs to be responsible to clean the ear 3x/day.

Some vets use X-ray plates to stitch to the ears. Some use drainage and high pressure. What is the best approach?
